SOME FOLK
DANCES IN THE
PHILIPPINES
1. PANDANGGO SA ILAW
It is similar to a Spanish
Fandango, but the
Pandanggo is performed
while balancing three oil
lamps - one on the
head, and one in each
hand. It is originated on
Lubang Island.
2. MAGLALATIK
It was originally performed in
Bian, Laguna as a mock-war
dance that demonstrates a
fight between the Moros and
the Christians over the prized
latik or coconut meat during
the Spanish rule, this dance
is also shown to pay tribute
to the towns patron saint,
San Isidro Labrador.
3. TINIKLING
Tinikling means
"bamboo dance"
Dancers imitate the
tikling bird's legendary
grace and speed by
skillfully maneuvering
between large bamboo
poles
4. CARIOSA
loving or affectionate one
It is a Philippine dance of
Hispanic origin from the
Maria Clara suite of
Philippine folk dances,
where the fan or
handkerchief plays an
instrumental role as it
places the couple in
romance scenario.
5. ITIK-ITIK
The Itik-Itik is a
dance from Surigao
del Norte, in which
the movements of
a duck are
imitated. An itik is
a species of duck.
6. SINGKIL
The Singkl
originated from the
Maranao people who
inhabit the shores of
Lake Lanao. It is
derived from a story
in the Darangen.

dance was popular in

province during the
Spanish times.
