ABOUT KIST RANGE BY CARGYLL

Cargills is one of the most leading and most profitable company in Sri Lanka.
Cargills provides the managers guidelines to follow when developing new products with regard to Kist Nectar.
This includes idea generation techniques, criteria for product analysis and feasibility study, testing and product
launching methodologies.
Relevant standards and laws to be followed. A market based pricing strategy is followed by Kist when setting the
prices for its Nectar range
These prices are fixed and standardized throughout the year no matter the season or the location of the outlet.

However, production costs fluctuate due to the price variations of fruits. Despite this, the price of the final product
remains unchanged resulting in inconsistent profit margins
Also there is a lack of Operational and Technological facilities to meet the excess demand.
Concurrent engineering
The traditional production process of Kist nectar

Concurrent engineering at Kist

Kist produces nectar using fresh fruits subject to seasonal variations.

However demand for nectar is regular throughout the year

With the traditional production process KIST faced difficulties in meeting the annual market requirement
They introduced the aseptic technique as a solution
The aseptic technique is used to make a fruit pulp out of fresh fruits which can be stored even for more than 8-9
months without contamination

Under this technique the fruit extract is heated up to 160 Celsius and automatically packed into metal bags with
the aid of computer technology
