1.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION able Trays

Cable trays, ladder racks and supports shall generally be heavy duty return flange mild steel and
galvanized to ISO 1461. The cable tray and ladder rack system shall comply with IEC 61537. Wire mesh
type tray shall not be used.

2.0 SCOPE

This section details the technical requirements for the design, construction and
testing of the
cable trays.

3.0 APPLICABLE CODES AND STANDARDS

The latest version of the following codes and standards shall be followed, unless stated
otherwise by this specification:

International Electrotechnical Commission

- IEC 61537, Cable management Cable tray systems and cable ladder systems

International Organisation for Standardization

- ISO 1461, Hot dip galvanized coatings on fabricated iron and steel articles --
Specifications and test methods.

National Electrical Manufactures Association

NEMA VE1, Metal Cable Tray Systems

NEMA VE2, Cable Tray Installation Guidelines

Proposed recommendations and requirements stated in above referenced codes and standards shall be
followed, unless stated otherwise by this Specification.

In case of any conflict between the reference codes, or this Specification and codes, the more stringent
applies.

4.0 DESIGN CRITERIA AND SYSTEM DETAILS

The plant shall be designed, constructed and installed such that every reasonable safeguard
and provision for the safety of all personnel concerned with the construction, commissioning, operation and
maintenance of the plant is incorporated.

All equipment shall be designed, constructed and installed to ensure satisfactory and safe
operation under all operating conditions including load and voltage variation, frequency variation, transients
from starts and stops, transients due to short circuits and other internal and external fault conditions.

ablethe
The failure of any single electrical component or piece of equipment shall not compromise Trays
safe operation of the plant and shall not cause a loaded generator to trip.

The design, construction and installation of the plant shall be carried out under the consideration
of maximising the continuity of supply, availability of service and reliability.

The electrical plant and equipment shall be provided with suitable means for electrical
disconnection, isolation and earthing of connections to facilitate maintenance and reconfiguration of any part
of the electrical power system during the normal operation of the power station.

All equipment shall be of proven concept and design under commercial operation and shall be
manufactured by reputable and approved manufacturers to ensure high reliability.

Prototype or experimental equipment that has not been proven shall

be excluded. All equipment shall be designed to IEC and IEEE standards as

appropriate.

5.0 MATERIALS

All equipment and components shall be new and designed and manufactured for the specific
purpose for which they shall be used within the plant.

The design, construction and installation of the plant and equipment shall be such as to minimise
the risk of the outbreak of fire and to minimise the potential and consequential injury to personnel and
damage to equipment.

Materials shall not support combustion and shall be fire retardant where possible.

1. GENERAL TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Cable trays shall be used for the support of single conductor cables tri plexed cables, and multi-
conductor cables.

Power cables shall run on cable trays/ladder rack separate from control cables and
instrumentation cables.

Cables with a diameter of 15 mm or less shall be supported on cable trays. Ladder rack shall
only be used for cables with a diameter larger than 15 mm.

The cable and containment installation shall consist of:

Medium voltage and low voltage AC power cables shall be installed on ladder rack or
tray with a minimum of one hundred millimetre (100mm) usable inside depth.

Control cables shall be installed on ladder rack or tray with a minimum of one hundred
millimetres (100mm) usable inside depth.

Instrumentation cables shall be installed on non-perforated tray with a minimumable Trays
of one
hundred millimetres (100mm) usable inside depth and shall have solid, flat, flush covers
throughout

There shall be no more than one layer of medium voltage power cables on trays or ladder racks.
Low voltage power cables shall be installed on ladder rack in no more than two layers, and one layer on
cable trays.

Cable tray and ladder rack supports shall be spaced to ensure that the deflection of the fully
loaded trays or racks does not exceed 1/300th of the spacing and no distortion shall occur when supporting
erection staff during cable installation. Cable trays and ladder racks shall be assessed for the impact
strength and safe weight limit as required by each application in accordance with IEC 61537.

For all horizontal and vertical bends, horizontal and vertical tees, and crosses, standard radius
fittings shall be used .

Cable trays and ladder racks shall have adequate continuity for equipotential bonding. However,
they shall not be used as circuit earthing conductor.

Stainless steel cable ties shall be used for all cables on vertical runs, horizontal runs in the
vertical plane, and horizontal runs where the ties are in direct sunlight.

Where resistance to acid, continuous submersion in water, or zero halogen emissions are
required, polyketone cable ties shall be used.

Covers shall be provided for trays and ladder rack where the cables are in
direct sunlight.

Where horizontal routes of power cable trays are required to be protected by solid covers
greater than1800mm in length side ventilated top hat type covers shall be used to provide ventilation.

Internal barriers for cable trays shall be the same height as the internal depth and the barriers
shall be securely anchored to the trays with smooth head bolts, nuts, and lock washers.

Cable bridges shall be enclosed sufficiently such that the trays and ladders that support the EHV
cables do not need covers to protect the EHV cables from the sun.

All the vertical runs of cable trays routing through floors and platforms for a distance of at least
1800 mm above and one foot 300 mm below the finished floor elevation shall be provided with solid flush
covers.

For cable trays routed under gratings and walkways, the tray covers shall be extend 1800 mm
beyond the extremity of the walkway or grating.

Each cable tray or ladder rack shall be labeled in accordance with the cable schedules. Markers
on the cable trays shall identify the tray numbers and voltage level as shown and noted on the drawings, and
shall be installed on both tray side rails at a minimum of 15 meter intervals. Tray numbers shall also be

high black numbers.

In areas of significant corrosion risk, plastic coated mild steel trays and ladder racks shall be
provided. Such areas shall include, but not limited to, the following:

CW intake pump house

Desalination plant (if applicable)

SWRO permeate storage tank area

Water treatment plant

Electrochlorination building

Chiller building

Intake electrical building

Jetty

Road tanker unloading and distillate tank area
