Roaming Facilities

Roaming facilities allows the customer to use the same


number wherever he goes.

Roaming facilities are available for customers who travel


across the country as well as internationally.

This facility is available to both Airtel post-paid and Pre


Paid customers.

Network Concepts

Home Network: Is the place where the customer took his/her


connection. This circles HLR would contain the customers details

Visited Network: Is the place where the customer has gone


for roaming. He/She is an in-roamer for this circle.

Other Network: Any location other then the home and visited
network

E.g. If a Pune customer goes out on roaming to Delhi, then


Maharashtra becomes the Home Network
Delhi becomes the Visited Network

Any other location apart from Mumbai and Delhi becomes Other Network

Airtel Roaming has three great options to roam either the


Nationally or Internationally:

Regional Roaming: Customer can roam within the following four


circles. Customer is required to remain on Airtel network.
Western Region (Mumbai, Maharashtra & Goa, Madhya
Pradesh & Chattisgarh, Gujarat)

National Roaming: Customer can roam anywhere in India.


Available in 23 circles and 54 networks

International Roaming: Customer can roam anywhere in the


world. Available in 89 countries and 148 networks

Requirements

Regional and National Roaming

Roaming Application Form (RAF).

Photo ID (driving license or passport).

No more required

Network Sharing
Network sharing is required where Airtel network is not
available.

Airtel has roaming agreements with other networks in


such regions.

Flat monthly charge of Rs.x calculated on pro-rata


basis.

The subscriber can request for activation/deactivation of


roaming services.

Network Selection

Network selection can be:


Automatic
Manual

In automatic selection, the subscriber is


hooked on to the strongest partner network.

For manual selection, the roaming subscriber


has to select the network he wants to use.

Automatic Selection:
The handset automatically logs on to Airtel or Airtels
partner network

In case of multiple partners the network with the strongest


signal is selected

Manual Selection:

The network selection menu will show the list of available


networks

The roaming subscriber can choose one of these networks

A Maharashtra customer is roaming in Mumbai and receives a

The call goes to the callers local BTS and BSC.

The call is then routed to the Pune MSC.


This is because the receiver has a Maharashtra number.

The Pune MSC identifies the receiver as a customer roaming in


Mumbai (VLR check).

The call is routed to the Mumbai MSC and then to the receiver.

Irrespective of the callers location, the call is routed through the


receivers home network.

roaming?

All services except Airtel information services.

Other services such as CLIR, data and fax services are


available if they are supported on the visiting network.

Should I activate my voice mailbox while roaming?

Customers should do one of the following:


Divert all calls.
or
Cancel all diverts

Helps in saving expenses as the customer does not have to


pay excessive STD charges.

The customer often ends up paying double STD charges on


conditional diverts.

Why have I not got the roaming facility on my account


even after requesting roaming activation?

Typically, these customers have a bad credit history


(bounced cheques, credit overdues etc.)

Check customer history.

Say, Mr./Ms. -------, I have taken note of your request


and we will inform you once the roaming facility is
activated.

If there are any dues, ask the customer to settle them.

Customers

What are the rentals/charges for roaming customers?

Monthly rental of Rs.149.

This facility allows the customer to use the same mobile
number and roam out of India.

Customer needs to activate ISD and International


Roaming (IR).

If the cellular connection is in company name, then use


needs to provide a letter on the company letterhead and
the stamp of the company on the Roaming Application
Form.

In case Customer get an Access Denied message on phone, then he should try to log on to the
network following the above mentioned guidelines. (This may happen because the network he is
trying to logon, might be facing a congestion related problem or Airtel does not have a Roaming
Tie-up with that network and hence he is advised to logon to another roaming partner network
in the visited destination.)

Forbidden: Forbidden message will flash on the screen after several unsuccessful attempts to
log on to the visited network. At this point customer needs to restart the mobile phone and

follow above-mentioned guidelines.
Roaming Benefits

Airtel is the first service provider to provide


full roaming services to customers.

This includes outgoing calls and messages for


areas with Airtel network coverage.

For other areas the roaming customer


receive calls and messages.

In these areas, Airtel customers can log on to


Airtel partner networks.

If subscriber not getting access in any network.


Check list of roaming partners
If no roaming partner available in the area, inform the
subscriber for the same

If subscriber not getting access in new Airtel Circles.


Handset make to be checked from subs , h/set should be a
dual band h/set because, many Airtel circles are on 1800
Mhz Frequency.

If subscriber facing coverage problem in visiting network.


Coverage problem for visiting network should be reported to
respective operator. ( Helpdesk No.)
