TEN COOL FUTURE trends in
Instructional Design for 2018
Assignment #3 FUTURIST INFOGRAPH REPORT
Course Coordinator: Dr. Camille Dickson-Deane
Student: DEBORAH HERBERT-REGIS Student ID: 807001323 Introduction The emerging trends highlighted in each slide of this infograhic, are not all novel to Instructional Design in general, but are to Instructional Design specific to the local context of Trinidad & Tobago. These trends may soon be introduced into some of our public schools and higher learning institutions, through individual teachers effort and group or whole-school initiatives. 1. Real-time holographics Real-time dynamic holographic displays, long the realm of science fiction, could be one step closer to reality (C. Williams, 2015). Holographic technology has the potential to create an engaging learning experience for learners, and provide them with the visuals they need to absorb material. It can be used for videoconferencing, gamification, and simulating assignments and projects (P. Nimritta, 2017).

Modern teaching tools can now essentially learn the way people learn, and adapt learning material to each learner. As you go through a course, the learning technologies in place track which elements of the course you work well with, and which ones are more challenging, so that it can adjust the course path and course materials based on your performance (P. Nimritta, 2017).

Today it would be unthinkable not to teach
children how to read and to write to leverage this old technology in order to expand their horizons beyond the spoken word (Tim Panagos, 2013).

and engagement. A Makerspace is simply a peer-based collaborative space where learners can come together to work, innovate, learn, and educate a space for people to create, or make (P. Nimritta, 2017).

Much of the work seems rote based and consists of concepts. Many teachers are therefore focused on using 3D printing and 3D prints to make STEM educational fun and more involving. Generally this could work.

Virtual Labs Virtual laboratories are web applications that emulate the operation of real laboratories and enable students to practice in a safe environment before using real, physical components. Students can feel more comfortable making mistakes and running experiments as often as they like Educators can play back videos of the experiments students have run online, pinpoint areas of improvement, and acknowledge students who have excelled. Virtual and remote laboratories increase access to science tools, allowing learners from all over the world to use them via wireless or cellular networks; laboratory work is no longer limited to spaces on physical campuses. Virtual Assistants Accessible through natural user interfaces, virtual assistants can be designed specifically to aid blind, deaf, and otherwise disabled learners. Over time, virtual assistants can potentially function as real-time translators, increasing the scope and depth of collaboration between institutions globally. Virtual assistants can access information from email accounts, personal calendars, and LMS to help students and faculty better manage their time and coordinate their work.

Students could upload an assignment to specific software, online apps, or free software such as Google Drive for simpler review and grading by teachers.
