Data Modeling Design of InfoProviders

December xx, 2013

Infoproviders

Infoproviders:

Objects for which you can create and execute reports on.

Types:-

(1) Physical Infoproviders : Infoobject , DSO, Infocube. (Target)

(2) Logical Infoproviders : Infoset , Multiprovider.
(No Target)

Physical Infoproviders

Infoobject :
Basic Building Blocks. Most granular Objects.

Divided into :
(1) Characteristics : Business Reference objects used to analyse key figures.
Eg :Cusomer Name , Customer ID
(2) KeyFigures : Provide values to be evaluated. Eg :Amount, Quantity
(3) Time Characteristics : Time reference for data analysis . Eg :Calender
Year , Calender Month.
(4) Technical Characterstics : Request ID, Change ID.
(5) Unit : Enable Key figures to be paired with their corresponding Units in
evaluations eg : Currency.

DSO (Data store Object) :
Stores consolidated and cleansed data.

Can be used to support detailed reporting.

It has overwrite and add options.

3 types :
(1) Standard DSO : Contains New, Active and Change log table. Activation is
required for data to available for reporting.
(2) Write Optimised DSO : Contains only Active Data table. Data is available for
reporting immediately after it is loaded.
(3) Direct update DSO : Contains only active table.

Infocube :
A key object of SAP BI which follows multidimensional model.
It follows the Star Schema concept.
Consists of the Central Fact table surrounded by several dimension tables.
Infocubes can have maximum of 16 dimension tables.
SAP provides 3 dimensions for each infocube Package, Time and Unit.
A fact table can have maximum of 233 key figures
2 types of data : Keyfigures and Characteristics.

Logical Infoproviders

Multiprovider :
Type of Infoprovider that combines data from number of infoproviders for
reporting purpose.
Multiprovider do not contain any data in itself.
Infoproviders are connected to one another by a union operations.
Infoproviders that can be used: Infocube, DSO, InfoObject and Infoset.

Infoset :
Infoset also do not contain any data in itself.
Infoproviders are connected to one another by a join.
Infoproviders that can be used: Infocube, DSO and InfoObject.
