Republic Act No. 8972 Who is a Solo Parent? A solo parent is a person left with the responsibilities of parenthood due to the following circumstances: Giving birth as a result of rape or crimes against chastity; Death of spouse; Detention or imprisonment of spouse for at least one year; Who is a Solo Parent? Physical or mental incapacity of spouse as certified by a medical practitioner; Legal separation/de facto separation from spouse for at least one year; Declaration of nullity of marriage Who is a Solo Parent? Parental Leave for Solo Parents Conditions for entitlement to parental leave The solo parent must have rendered service for at least one year, whether continuous or broken; The solo parent must notify the employer at a reasonable time period; and The Solo Parent must present his/her Solo Parent Identification Card to the employer. Housing Benefits Solo parents are entitled to be given allocation in the government low-cost housing projects on liberal terms of payment.
