QUALITY OF EDUCATION
WASTED GIFTS, TALENTS, AND
ABILITIES
One of the most troubling challenges in education today is
the same challenge that weve had for millennia. Education,
at its best, is about helping people discover, refine, and
develop their gifts, talents, passions and abilities; and then
helping them discover how to use those gifts, talents,
abilities in ways that benefit others and oneself. There are
too many places where this does not happen. Too many
learners fall between the cracks. We have existing learning
organizations where learners are part of that organization
for years without having this journey of discovery.
At the same time, it is with this category
that also place the critical issue today of
access and opportunity to education
around the world. In the end, not pursuing
educational access and opportunity is a
terrible waste and loss of the gifts, talents,
abilities and passions of those people in
different parts of the world.
POSSIBLE REASONS WHY WERE GIFTS, TALENTS
AND ABILITIES ARE WASTED.

NO ACCESS TO EDUCATION
FINANCIAL PROBLEMS
UNWILLINGNESS TO LEARN
DONT HAVE A CHANCE TO DISCOVER OR ENCHANCE ONES TALENT, PASSION OR
ABILITY.
THE INCREASE OF TUITION FEES

1,000 schools get OK to raise tuition

Private elementary and high schools across the country had been given the
green light to increase their tuition for the coming school year

The figure represented 8 percent of the total number of private schools

nationwide

Briones said majority of these private schools were small, faith-based

schools that needed to augment their teachers salaries.
Metro Manila accounted for the most number
of schools that will increase their tuition for
school year 2017-2018, with 183; followed by
Davao, with 154 schools; Central Luzon, with
104 schools; and Bicol region, with 101
private elementary and high schools.

In Caraga, only two schools will raise their fees

this year, according to the DepEd.
70 percent of the proceeds from the tuition hike
would be allotted for the salary increase of the
faculties.

The disparity of the income between public and

private school teachers is widening

Some private schools are even closing because

they cant catch up, they are losing teachers
especially the very good ones, she said.

TESTING AND ASSESSMENT
Tests nowadays have become the focus

Testing should exist as a servant to the main goals of

education.
As schools focus on teaching to these tests, students scores
go up, but large gaps in knowledge become apparent.
Tests should help improve the performance of students and
not become a unit of measurement for their intelligence.
It should show a students intellectual potential, but it
shouldnt be the main focus of education.
Often times, students would only study for
the sake of passing a test when they should
be studying to learn and to understand.
Students would memorize numerous
chapters of books without completely
understanding them.
This would cause students to completely
forget what they studied for in the first place.
What we want and need are assessment
plans that bring out the best in people
and organizations.
There are many different types of
intelligence tests and they all do not
measure the same abilities.
