NATURAL GAS LIQUEFACTION

LNG is formed when natural gas is cooled by a

refrigeration process to temperatures of
between 159 and 162 degree C through a
process known as liquefaction.
Available Liquefcation Processes
Justification Of MR Over Cascade and
Turbine Based
uses a single mixed refrigerant instead of multiple
pure refrigerants

Higher thermodynamic efficiency

Lower power requirement and entire machinery

smaller

Lower maintenance cost

Classification of Mixed Refrigerent
Single Mixed Refrigerent Process (SMR),

Dual Mixed Refrigerant Process (DMR),

Mixed refrigerant with propane pre-cooling

(C3/MR),

AP-X
Why C3MR?

1. Production capacity
2. Power Efficiency
BFD & PFD of C3MR Process

21
Assumptions
Propane is available at -40 degree C.

The compression taking place in the

compressor is isentropic

The expansion of both propane and

mixed refrigerant are isenthalpic (No
change in enthalpies)

Isobaric evaporation and condensation
