Jean McNiff
live in Dorset, on the south coast of England.
She took early retirement in 1987 from her position
as a deputy head teacher in a large secondary school
in Dorset, and then run her own business.
Gradually moved into higher education, where she
have worked with educators across the professions
who wish to study what they are doing as
practitioner researchers.
She believe passionately that all people can think for
themselves and make their own decisions about how
they should run their lives, but should also show
how they hold themselves accountable for how they
do so.
She hold part-time professorial positions at various
universities: St Mary's University College,
Twickenham, UK; the University of Limerick,
Ireland; Ningxia Teachers University, People's
Republic of China; the Nelson Mandela
Metropolitan University, South Africa. These are
honourable positions.

The message she try to communicate through

everything she do is, 'You can do this. Don't believe
it when other people say you cannot think for
yourself or do things for yourself. You are a
valuable, capable person, who deserves your place
on this earth.' We should all be proud of ourselves
and one another.
MODEL JEAN MCNIFF
1. McNiff (1988) - Kajian Tindakan merupakan satu
pendedahan untuk memperbaiki dan
mempertingkatkan pendidikan melalui perubahan
yang menggalakkan guru untuk :
menjadi lebih sedar tentang amalan mereka sendiri,
menjadi kritis terhadap amalan-amalan tersebut
dan bersedia mengubah amalan.
2. Pendekatan ini memerlukan guru melaksanakan
inkuiri penemuan secara individu serta melibatkan
guru-guru lain secara kolaboratif

McNiff, J. (1988) Action Research, Principles and Practice, London:

Macmillan Education p57- 71 .
1. Start small the study should focus on aspects rather than the
whole. It is a false economy to leap inot a large project, ready to
tackle each and every aspect of the situation. Small considered
steps are more thrifty of peoples time, energy and motivation.
2. Plan carefully- Action research by its very nature will continually
change shape and focus. McNiff underlines the benefits of
planning how research will be set up; who to
involve/consult/keep informed, resources required/available for
example.
3. Set realistic timescales to be able to cope with the unpredictability
of action research
4. Involve others and keep them informed. Action research focus is
WITH rather than ON.
5. Arrange feedback works as a corrective device and will
determine the new direction of research.
6. Organise a writing schedule- action research is short hops,
recording and writing these down will help clarify them. Once a
section is gone, so will its impact and seen in retrospect it will
certainly appear different than it was at the time.
