BUILDINGS…
GREEN BUILDINGS…

Green building is the

practice of increasing
the efficiency with which
buildings use resources — energy, water, and
materials — while reducing building impacts on
human health and the environment, through better
site, design, construction, operation, maintenance,
and removal (i.e) the complete Building life
cycle.
WHAT IS LEED RATING SYSTEM?????
LEED RATING SYSTEM….

The Leadership in Energy

and Environmental Design
(LEED) Green Building
Rating System encourages and accelerates global
adoption of sustainable green building and
development practices through the creation and
implementation of universally understood and
accepted tools and performance criteria.
GREEN BUILDING…

Sustainable design
or building “green” is
an opportunity to use our
resources efficiently while
creating healthier building. It
provides cost saving to all the
users through improved human health and
productivity, lower cost building operations and
resource efficiency– and it moves us closer to a
sustainable future.
USES…
• Reuse and Recycle of Resources.
• Siting and structure design efficiency
• Water Efficiency
• Material Efficiency
• Heating, Ventilation and Cooling system
efficiency
• Operation and Maintenance optimization
• Waste Reduction
• Cost Efficiency
Recycle and Renewable
Resources
• Bottles and Cans can be used for making
other materials used for construction
purposes.

• Use of LED lights instead of incandescent

lights can save energy upto 10%.

• Cost effectiveness is ensured.

SITING AND STRUCTURE
DESIGN

• Takes advantage of mass transit.

• Protect and retain existing landscaping and
natural features.
• Recycled content paving materials, furnishings,
and mulches help close the recycling loop.
WATER EFFICIENCY
• Design for dual plumbing to use recycled water for toilet flushing or a
gray water system that recovers rainwater or other non-potable water
for site irrigation.

• Minimize wastewater by using ultra low-flush toilets, low-flow shower

heads, and other water conserving fixtures.

• Use recirculating systems for centralized hot water distribution.

• Install point-of-use hot water heating systems for more distant

locations.

• Use micro-irrigation (which excludes sprinklers and high-pressure

sprayers) to supply water in non-turf areas.

• Use state-of-the-art irrigation controllers and self-closing nozzles on

hoses.
MATERIAL EFFICIENCY

• By evaluating several characteristics such as reused and

recycled content, zero or low off gassing of harmful air
emissions, zero or low toxicity, sustainably harvested
materials, high recyclability, durability, longevity, and
local production.  Such products promote resource
conservation and efficiency.

• Use dimensional planning and other material efficiency

strategies.  These strategies reduce the amount of
building materials needed and cut construction costs.

• Reuse and recycle construction and demolition

materials.
WASTE MANAGEMENT

• Waste takes the form of spent or useless materials

generated from households and businesses, construction
and demolition processes and manufacturing and
agricultural industries. These materials are loosely
categorized as municipal solid waste, construction and
demolition (C&D) debris and industrial or agricultural by-
products.

• Sustainable architecture focuses on the on-site use of

waste management, incorporating things such as grey
water systems for use on garden beds, and composting
toilets to reduce sewage. These methods, when combined
with on-site food waste composting and off-site recycling,
can reduce a house's waste to a small amount of
packaging waste.
Heating, Ventilation and Cooling System
Efficiency

• An efficient building provides less heat generating or

dissipating power, but may require more ventilation
capacity to expel polluted indoor air.

• Significant amounts of energy are flushed out of

buildings in the water, air and compost streams. Off the
shelf, on-site energy recycling technologies can
effectively recapture energy from waste hot water and
stale air and transfer that energy into incoming fresh cold
water or fresh air.
