A.) Definition of Energy

Energy is Ability to do work

* The Unit : Joule (J)
* The Other Unit : calorie (cal)

1 Calorie 4.2 Joule

1 Joule 0.24 Calorie
B.) The Form of Energy Which Can
Be Use In Daily Life
Solar Energy

Solar energy can be changed into electric energy using solar cells know as
photovoltalic.
Now days, solar cells have been used widely.
Obstacle:
Season the sun doesnt always shine.
Example :
As water heater set on the roof of a house and hotels.
Example of place as model in Indonesia :
Oeledo district
Rote resident
East Nusa Tenggara.
Wind Energy

Wind Energy has been used for a long time to move a pump and crush
grairis.
Obstacle:
Needs a large area and wind-mill in a big size in order to get large
amount.
Needs a constant and strong wind to move the wind-mill.
Example:
Used as the energy source of electric generator in the from of wind-mill.
Example of place as model in Indonesia:
Oeledo district
Rote resident
East Nusa Tenggara.
Water Energy

Water Energy can be used as an electric generator.

Example:
Water in the dam to flow and move turbine which is connected to the
generator. If generator move, electricity will occur.
The center of water power in Indonesia:
PLTA Angkup
PLTA Jatiluhur, West Java
PLTA Sadang, South Celebes
PLTA Sentani, Papua
PLTA Riam Kanan, South Kalimantan.
Geothermal Energy

If we drill under the earth surface, than heat steam will gush out from the
earth surface.
Example:
The steam can be used to generate a power plant. It is as Geothermal
Power Plant (PLTP)
The Center of Geothermai Energy in Indonesia:
Gunung Salak, Bogor, West Java.
Tidal Energy

The phenomena of a flood and ebb of the sea.

Example:
Used t rotate a turbine as a power plant.
The places:
Le Rance, Prancis.
Nuclear Energy

Created from the splitting nucleus (fission reaction) of combined nucleus

(fusion reaction). The energy produced by fission and fusion reaction is
very great.
Example:
Atomic bomb to destroy Hirosima and Nagasaki.
C.) Energy Transformation
The change energy from one form to another.

Example:
Mechanical dynamo Electrical Energy
Energy
electrical engine
Electrical Energy
iron Heat Energy
microphone
speaker
Electrical Energy Sound Energy
microphone
battery
Chemical Energy accumulator chargig Electrical Energy
D.) The Law of Energy Conservation
Energy cannot be created and cannot be destroyed, but the
energy can only be transformed from one from to another.
EP

E.) Mechanical Energy

Potential Energy

The energy had by a body because of its potition.

Example :
Drop a stone from a certain high into a soft siol, the stone will
perforate the siol when it reaches the soil.

EP = m . g. h

EP = Potential Energy (J)

m = mass of body (kg)
g = acceleration due to gravity (m/s2)
h = height of body from the earth surface (m)
Kinetic Energy

Energy of a body cause by its motion.

Example:
Stone will have a big potential energy due to its height, and the energy
will decrease when it draws near the ground. However, the motion of
body will grow faster as it draws near the ground.

Ek = m . v2

E = Kinetic energy (J)

m = mass of body (kg)
v = velocity of body (m/s)
F.) The law of macanical energy
concervation
The sum of potential energy and kinetic energy is always
constant. So mechanical energy is conserved.

Before falling

while falling

Right before
Reaching the
ground
G.) The relation between work and
energy
Work is multiplication between force and displacement in the
direction of the forces.
W=F.s

w = work (J)
F = Force (N)
s = displacement (m)
