LITERATURE
INTRODUCTION:

Multiplex is an integrated entertainment place having at least 3 cinema halls and


shopping mall

Apart from cinema halls, shopping mall we have other entertainment areas like
restaurants, cafeteria, fast food centers, video games, pubs, and other
recreational activities.

1922 the first shoping mall was the
country club plaza was opened near

in dallas.
1956 the first enclosed mall called
southdale

HISTORY

In India, the mushrooming of multiplexes since the


mid-80s has changed the dynamics of Indian cinema.
India's first multiplex was KG theatre with 4 screens in
Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu which was inaugurated on 30
June 1978. Indian cinema chains such as INOX, PVR,
SPI Cinemas, Cinepolis , k sera miniplex and Big
MAYAJAAL MULTIPLEX
Cinemas have been able to make in roads into tier II
and III cities in the world's largest film viewing
industry. The largest multiplex in India is the 16-screen
4 megaplex Mayajaal in Chennai.
19th century shops...
For wealthy women shopping was a popular pastime in the 19th century.
In the late 19th century shopping arcades were built in many British towns.
Also in the late 19th century department stores became common. In the early
20th century chain stores also became common although many shops were still family owned.

Modern time shops...
A shopping mall is a term, in which one or more buildings form a complex of shops
representing merchandisers with interconnecting walkways that enable customers to
walk from unit to unit.

SITE CRITERIA:
Multiplex Complexes shall not be allowed

In congested areas and settlement area.


In areas restricted for high-rise buildings and abutting major road junctions.
In purely residential areas/localities.

Multiplexes may be permitted

In a zone or scheme declared as tourism zone/area along with other recreational


facilities.

Habitable areas like hotels, service apartments shall not be allowed in the same block
where the multiplexes are set up and shall be allowed only as a separate block. Such a
Complex may be spread over the site or be in one or more blocks which may be high-rise
buildings or normal buildings.
SITE REQUIREMENTS FOR MULTIPLEX COMPLEXES:

The minimum plot size 3000 sq m.


The minimum abutting road width shall be 18 m
The minimum service road width shall be 7m
Provided the maximum height of the block/portion wherein the Multiplex 30 m
screens are set up shall not exceed
Provided in case of sites located in Gram Panchayat areas and outside 30 m
UDA areas, the maximum height of all blocks permissible shall be;
blocks above 30 m and up to 45 m of heights, the minimum abutting road 24 m
width shall be
blocks
8 of height above 45 m, the minimum abutting road width shall 30m
PARKING:

The parking requirements within the site shall be as follows

Type of Building Parking area to be provided as percentage of total built up


area (inclusive of all internal aisles, driveways, stairs, etc.

In Municipal 60%
Corporation area
In other areas 50%

THE PARKING SPACES MAY BE PROVIDED IN:

Basements or cellars or

On stilt floor or

In the open space over and above the minimum required set-backs (except the front
set-back) to be left around the building with adequate vehicular access, aisle, drives,
ramps required for maneuvering of vehicles

Suitable means of entrance and exit which shall not be less than 5m width and 2.5m in
height for use of the public and to access of the fire fighting vehicles in the road
frontage.

FOR CALCULATION OF CAR SPACE THE FOLLOWING SHALL BE
CONSIDERED:

Area of each car space;


Basement parking-30 sq. m
Stilt - 25 sq. m
Open Parking - 20 sq. m

At least two ramps of each minimum 3.6 m width or one ramp of minimum 5.4 m width
and adequate slope shall be provided.

Basement/cellar shall be set back at least 1.5 m from the property line.

In case of more than one cellar 1 metre additional setback for every additional cellar
floor shall be insisted.

LANDSCAPING AND GREENERY:

A minimum 2 m wide green planting strip in the periphery on all sides within
the setbacks are required to be developed and maintained.

In addition to (i) above, an organized open space of at least 10% of total


site area shall be maintained and utilized as greenery over and above the
mandatory around set-backs.

Trees shall be planted within the periphery of the site at the rate of 1 tree
per 100 sq.m of site area.

SHOPPING MALL:
A shopping mall is a modern, chiefly North American, term for a
form of shopping precinct or shopping centre, in which one or
more buildings form a complex of shops representing
merchandisers with interconnecting walkways that enable
customers to walk from unit to unit. A shopping arcade is a specific
type of shopping precinct which is usually distinguished in English
for mall shopping by the fact that connecting walkways are not
owned by a single proprietor and are in open air. Technical
innovations such as electric lighting and escalators were
introduced from the late 19th century.
From the late 20th century, entertainment venues such as movie
theaters and restaurants began to be added.

Malls have changed shopping experience
Malls are not only a shopping place but a place to rejuvenate,
socialize and entertain.
In big retail stores you get everything under one roof from branded
clothes, grocery, electronics to foot wear.
Without a doubt malls have changed the shopping experience of
Indians.
Doing shopping in the scorching heat of the sun has been replaced
by AC shopping.
Youth take this as a status symbol.
Visiting malls and buying branded products satisfy their thirst for
better quality of life.
Teenagers do come to show off.
