CASE PRESENTATION

Lindsey Buck
BACKGROUND
INFORMATION
For my case presentation I chose an African American family that is adopting a child from the foster
care system. They have been fostering children for years, they already have one biological child, and
have another child that is adopted as well. They both work and live in a nice home on the outside of city
limits.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
The problem in this case is that the child they are trying to adopt is 4
months old and the parental rights have not been terminated yet.
SERVICES
The service that Guardian ad Litem can provide is an advocate for the child; the advocate can see how
the child is doing since they have been with the family and voice to the court if its in the best interest of
the child to continue to be with that family.
STRENGTHS AND
LIMITATIONS
A strength that this family has is that they are providing a healthy, loving home for the child and they have the means to continue to take
care of her.
Another strength is that they have already adopted a child recently who is two years old and he is doing very well.
A limitation that is holding this family back would be that the parental rights have not been terminated yet and they cannot proceed with
the adoption until that is complete.
ASSESSMENT GOALS
The main goal of this family is to adopt the child.
SPECIFIC
INTERVENTIONS
An intervention that could be helpful for this family would be a family counselor
that could help them and the other children adjust to having another addition to
the family.
What are some biases you had going into the interview?
A bias that I have going into any home for the first time is not knowing if
the family is doing their absolute best when taking care of the foster child(ren).

What are some value differences between you and the client?
I didnt see any value differences that are related to the actual case.

What events or life experiences have shaped them into the person they are?
The foster mother had a big family growing up and she always wanted a lot
of children, however after she had her first child she was told she could not have any
more children, this is what led to her and her husband choosing to foster and
eventually adopt.
What is the staff recommendation about diagnosis, interventions or
treatment?
The recommendation of the agency is for this family to be
able to adopt the child.

What does research say on their diagnosis/problem/treatment?

There is not a diagnosis.

What changes are recommended for the agency?

I dont have any recommendations for the agency at this time.
