PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR
Competency One
Principle 1
Make ethical decisions by applying the standards of the NASW Code of
Ethics, relevant laws and regulations, models for ethical decision-making,
ethical conduct of research, and additional codes of ethics as appropriate to
context.

This principle can be achieved by ensuring that all times, HIPPA is being
enforced. Also, obeying the policies that Saber has mandated in order to
being ethically responsible.

Principle 2
Use reflection and self-regulation to manage personal values and
maintain professionalism in practice situations.

.Understanding personal biass is important to achieving this principle.


There are a variety of religions and view points on the end of life.
Each resident will want and expect something different. By knowing
my biass, I will be able to address each resident in an ethically
correct manner.
Principle 3
Demonstrate professional demeanor in behavior; appearance; and
oral, written, and electronic communication.

Saber has constructed a strict dress code in order to protect the


faculty and residents
-No large earrings or necklaces
- No Strong perfumes
- -Name tags are required for residence with memory loss
Principle 4
Use technology ethically and appropriately to facilitate practice
outcomes.

When doing assessments, ensuring that other residents paperwork is


covered while walking down the hall and in other residents rooms.
Closing out or covering residents files when other individuals are
present.
Principle 5
Use supervision and consultation to guide professional judgment and
behavior.

Asking my advisor questions when I do not understand.


Attending plan care meetings to discuss with other faculty members
what is the best course of action.

Competency Two
Principle 1
Apply and communicate understanding of the importance of diversity
and difference in shaping life experiences in practice at the micro,
mezzo, and macro levels.

Communicate with home health services, families and the resident


individually.
Principle 2
Present themselves as learners and engage clients and
constituencies as experts of their own experiences.

Listen to the needs, wants, and the non-verbal signs from the resident
to best judge what path to take.
Principle 3
Apply self-awareness and self-regulation to manage the influence of
personal biases and values in working with diverse clients and
constituencies.

Understand personal biases and weaknesses to ensure the best


interest of the resident.

Competency Three
Principle 1
Apply understanding of social, economic, and environmental justice
to advocate for human rights at the individual and system levels.

Advocate for the residents that have reasonable request at the


nursing home.
Principle 2
Engage in practices that advance social, economic, and
environmental justice.

Take time to better understand the resident and how the needs vary
and are similar.

Competency Four
Principle 1
Identify social policy at the local, state, and federal level that impacts
well-being, service delivery, and access to social services.

Identify with HIPPA, Medicare and Medicaid and how it relates to the
residents.
Principle 2
Assess how social welfare and economic policies impact the delivery
of and access to social services.

Identify the gaps within the services provided by Medicare and


Medicaid
Principle 3
Apply critical thinking to analyze, formulate, and advocate for policies
that advance human rights and social, economic, and environmental
justice.

Work with supervisor and other advocates to ensure that the residents
are provided the best care at the nursing facility.

Principle 1
Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social environment,

Understand the desire and need for the facility to feel like home for
the residents that are long term and how this can affect their quality of
life.
Principle 2
Use empathy, reflection, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage
diverse clients and constituencies.

Listen and understand the needs of the clients.

Competency Six
Principle 1
Collect and organize data, and apply critical thinking to interpret
information from clients and constituencies.

Assess the residents by doing social histories, BIMS, and mood


assessments
Principle 2
Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social environment,
person-in-environment, and other multidisciplinary theoretical
frameworks in interventions with clients and constituencies.

Observe how the resident behaves and engages in different settings.


Principle 3
Develop mutually agreed-on intervention goals and objectives based
on the critical assessment of strengths, needs, and challenges within
clients and constituencies.

Discuss with the resident specific goals that they are wanting to
achieve and how to reach them
Principle 4
Select appropriate intervention strategies based on the assessment,
research knowledge, and values and preferences of clients and
constituencies.

Work closely with other departments to evaluate what plan would be


best for the resident

Competency Seven
Principle 1
Critically choose and implement interventions to achieve practice
goals and enhance capacities of clients and constituencies.

Work with the residents that meet the criteria for the specific project at
that time and have the same goals
Principle 2
Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social environment,
person-in-environment, and other multidisciplinary theoretical
frameworks in interventions with clients and constituencies.

Assess the resident and understand what they need. Create a plan
specific to their needs.
Principle 3
Use inter-professional collaboration as appropriate to achieve
beneficial practice outcomes.

Work closely with other staff members to achieve the goals of the
residents
Principle 4
Negotiate, mediate, and advocate with and on behalf of diverse
clients and constituencies.

Be and advocate for the resident during the meetings with the staff
members
Principle 5
Facilitate effective transitions and endings that advance mutually
agreed-on goals.

Always document what is happening and communicate effectively


with the resident to keep them updated.

Competency Eight

Select and use appropriate methods for evaluation of outcomes.

Create a survey to assess the success of the plan for the resident

frameworks in the evaluation of outcomes.

Continue to advocate and support for the resident regardless of the


outcome.
Principle 3
Critically analyze, monitor, and evaluate intervention and program
processes and outcomes.

Evaluate and update the files on the resident


Principle 4
Apply evaluation findings to improve practice effectiveness at the
micro, mezzo, and macro levels.

Write notes on all that happens with the resident throughout the entire
process to ensure that no information is lost.
