DENTAMENT

PROPERTIES OF AN IDEAL
DENTAL CEMENT
A Dental cement should be Biocompatible
It should be non toxic and non Irritant
Should be insoluble in Saliva and any other oral
fluids
Should chemically bond with enamel and dentine
Should be easily manipulated
Should have enough working time
Should provide good insulation
A dental cement should form a barrier against
toxic agents
CHARACTERISTICS
POLY CARBOXYLATE CEMENT
Exceptional Physical properties
Easy to use
Cheap
Has Anti Cariogenic action
Non pulp irritant
Setting Time:7-9 minutes
Working time:15-20 minutes
Stimulates Dentine formation
Best for posterior tooth restoration
PROPERTIES
Hard Cement
Can withstand masticatory forces
Can withstand amalgam condensation forces
PHYICAL PROPERTIES Retained to both tooth and restorational surfaces
Flow and hydrophilicity
Light cured.
Best against all types of wear

Low Solubility
Non Pulp Irritant
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES Ph-7 when administrated
Slow Flouride release
Chemically Adhere to tooth surfaces(.

THERMAL AND OPTICAL Thermal Insulator

No deformation occurs at extreme temperatures
PROPERTIES Radio Opaque

Physical properties
HYDROPHILICITY:

The hydrophilicity of the cement before its

curing allows it to be easily used as it can flow
over the tooth surface with ease and can be
manipulated.
There is no exothermic curing which might
bring about change in the dimensions of the
restoration along with causing irritation to the
adjoining tissue.
Physical Properties
The compressive strength gives the
cement the necessary hardness to
withstand the masticatory forces
essential for the posterior teeth.

There is strong micromechanical

adhesive properties to adhere strongly
with the teeth (enamel and dentin),
tissues and materials used.
Chemical properties
The chemical nature of the cement is insoluble
so that the saliva doesnt effect restoration.
The ph after a certain time reaches 7 to match
the ph of oral cavity and not be affected by acid
or basic variations in the ph.
There is 5% 12-
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
:BACTERIOCIDAL ACTION:
DENTIMENT has meth-acryoyl-oxydo-decyl-
pyridinium bromide (MDPB) as an anti bacterial
agent.

ANTI CARIOGENIC ACTION:

There is a slow fluoride release mechanism in the
cement to fortify the teeth and prevent caries
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
CHEMICAL ADHESION:

DENTAMENT chemically adheres to

enamel/dentine (high affinity for binding to
Calcium )

It adheres to Apitie Crystal by Hydroegen bonding

Chemical properties
The chemical composition of the cement is
such that it is not an irritant to the pulp.
This property enables the cement to be
used in a wide variety of restorations.
Thermal properties
As the cement is widely used as a base for
crown placements in the posterior teeth, it
has to be an insulator to withstand the
extremes of temperature to protect the pulp.

MARGINAL LEAKAGE
The thermal co-efficient is similar to that of
teeth so that there is no gapping between the
tooth and the cement (marginal leakage)
when exposed to high or low temperatures.
Optical Properties
RADIO OPAQUE

DENTAMENT is Radio opaque so it can be easily

distinguished in the OPG.
As the cement is specific for posterior teeth and
is used as a filling material both temporary and
permanent, the color would be a translucent one
matching that of the tooth.
The cement is available in a wide variety of
colors to match the teeth color of the patient.

IN VITRO TEST/INITIAL TEST

IN VITRO TEST
These are those test which are performed outside the living organism.
Following tests are performed:
Cytotoxic Test
Memberane permeability test

RESULTS:
Cytotoxic Test: No toxic effect
Memberane permeability Test: No permeability in normal cell

CONCLION:
This material is non Toxic effects.
Animal/In Vivo Test
These tests are performed on Animals e.g Rats and cows
Following Tests are performed on animals
Implantation Test are on a long term basis.
Mucosal Toxicity Test

RESULTS:
Implantation Test: Retains in for longer time
Mucosa; Toxicity Test: No inflammation produced in Gingiva and
peridontium and No signs Of Edema
HUMAN TESTS
After performing multiple tests on cell culture and animals. Now the material
is tested on humans.
Following tests are performed:
Pulp/Dentin Test
Pulp Capping and pulpotomy test
Endodontic Use (Post RCT test)

Results:
Pulp/dentin test: No inflammation produced
Pulp cappping and pulpotomy test: No irritation produced
Endodontic Usage: It remains in cavity
CONCLUSION
ZBD is a Biocompatible Gold Standard Material. It
has no toxic effects in both animals and
Humans.
It produces no inflammation in peridontium and
resists all kind of physical and Chemical
changes and ideal for Oral Enviroment and
Posterior tooth Restoration.
