With role of coal which very large. Arrage is interested to
carry out industrial work practice in one of the agencies
engaged in quality testing of coal.
Which located in Balikpapan,Kalimantan timur, the
name of the industry is PT.consult while focus in analisis
of coal
Coal is a solid fuel containing ash commutities in the use
of energy resources in Indonesia mainly use energy for
the purposes of combustion in large quantities such as
sream power palnts and cement industry realized that
the use of coal has several advantages.
The use of coal in the from of brigetts is a very potensial
material to replace kersion or firewood which is still
wraely used in village
Discussion
General analysis of coal is a complete analysis in
testing a coal in Indonesia
The complete analysis of coal consists of several
parameter analysis such as proximate, caloric
value,ash analysis and TS
Proximate is a preliminary analysis testing a coal
sample consisting of inherent moisture volatile
mettet, ash content and fixid carbon
moisture
the coal moisture is an important property
which should be frequently analyzed and
monitored. There are different types of moisture
in coal. Groundwater and other extraneous
moisture makes the coal wet and it is called the
adventitious moisture. This water can be readily
removed by evaporation at room temperature.
Ash content
The ash content is determined by heating and
burning coal samples in the presence of air and
determining the mass loss. The exact procedure
of ash determination is different in different
countries.
Fixed carbon
is the solid fuel left in the furnace after volatile matter is distilled off. It
consists mostly of carbon but
also contains some hydrogen, oxygen, sulphur and nitrogen not driven
off with the gases. Fixed

carbon gives a rough estimate of heating value of coal

volatile metter
Volatile matters are the methane, hydrocarbons, hydrogen and carbon
monoxide, and incombustible

gases like carbon dioxide and nitrogen found in coal. Thus the volatile

gaseous fuels present. Typical range of volatile matter is 20 to 35%.

Calorie value
The energy value of coal, or the fuel content, is
the amount of potential energy in coal that can
be converted into actual heating ability. The
value can be calculated and compared with
different grades of coal or even other materials.
Materials of different grades will produce
differing amounts of heat for a given mass.
