Theory
The Project Network
The tool used for planning, scheduling, and monitoring
project progress.
The network is developed from the information collected for
the WBS and is a graphic flow chart of the project job plan.
Theory
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
A key project deliverable that organizes the team's work into
manageable sections
Project networks are developed from the WBS
Work package from the WBS are used to build the activities
found in the project network

Gantt Chart
Theory
Gantt Chart
Bar charts are popular because they present an easy-to-understand,
clear picture on a time-scaled horizon.
They are used during planning, resource scheduling, and status
reporting.
The format is a two-dimensional representation of the project
schedule, with activities down the rows and time across the
horizontal axis
Theory
Lags
A lag is the minimum amount of time a dependent activity
must be delayed to
begin or end
The use of lags has been developed to offer greater
flexibility in network construction
Theory
Finish-to-Start Relationship :
The next activity in a sequence must be delayed even when
the preceding activity is complete
Used when ordering materials
Useful to depict transportation, legal, and mail lags
Theory

Start-to-Start
Relationship
An alternative to
segmenting the activities
as we did earlier is to use
a start-to-start
relationship
Theory
Slack (or Float)
The amount of time that an activity can be delayed after
the start of a longer parallel activity or activities.
Total slack
The amount of time an activity can be delayed without
delaying the entire project.
The critical path is the network path(s) that has (have) the
least slack in common.
Case
Winter Olympics in Vancouver and Whistler, BC, Canada in 2010.
Construction of ski lodge and ski complex
