STANDARDS AND OBJECTIVES
Standard:
2.P.3A.1 Analyze and interpret data from observations and measurements to describe the properties used
to classify matter as a solid or a liquid.

2.P.3A. 2 Construct scientific arguments using evidence from investigations to support claims that some
changes in solids or liquids are reversible and some are not when heat is added or removed.

Objectives:

- Students will be able to analyze data to describe the properties of matter.

- Students will be able to describe the properties used to classify matter as a solid o
a liquid.
VOCABULARY
Properties: something about an object that can be observed, such
as its size, shape, color, etc.

Matter: anything that takes up space and has mass.

VOCABULARY
Liquid: a substance that flows; a substance that takes
the shape of its container.

Solid: a substance that has a definite shape and volume.

CALL AND RESPOND
Teacher: Class, class.

Students: Yes, yes.

Teacher: Can you think of any examples of solids and

liquids?
LIQUID POEM
A liquid moves smoothly.
We say that it flows.
From one place to another-
How quickly it goes!
We know that most liquids
Are easy to see.
With no shape of their own,
Theyre not like you and me!
SOLID POEM

A solid is a solid,
It doesnt change its shape.
It cannot move around,
It stays in just one place.

Your desk is a solid,

And so is your chair.
Just look in the classroom -----
Wow! Theyre everywhere!
