A form of bypass surgery that can create new routes around narrowed and blocked coronary arteries, permitting increase blood flow to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle. It is an option for selected groups of patients with significant narrowings and blockages of the heart arteries. STENT A tube designed to be inserted into a vessel or passageway to keep it open. Stents are inserted into narrowed coronary arteries to help keep them open after balloon angioplasty. The stent then allows the normal flow of blood and oxygen to the heart. PTCA Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty A minimally invasive procedure to open up blocked coronary arteries, allowing blood to circulate unobstructed to the heart muscle.
