Inspiration of the New

Testament
…From the Father, to Christ, to the
apostles and prophets, to us…
Inspiration of the N. Testament

“God, after He spoke long ago to the

fathers in the prophets in many portions
and in many ways, in these last days has
spoken to us in His Son”
Inspiration of the N. Testament
Jesus was a prophet…

“I will raise up a prophet from among their

countrymen like you, and I will put My words in
His mouth, and he shall speak to them…” Deut.
18:18

Peter said the “prophet” was Christ – Acts 3: 22

Book of John

Identifies Christ differently from the other gospels

Records for us the specific instructions for the apostles (Jn. 13 – 17)
relating to their ministries.

Inspiration of the New Testament

Book of John

1. John 1:18 – Christ revealed the Father

2. Jn. 3:34 – John the Baptist said of Jesus “He whom God sent
speaks the words of God.”

3. Jn. 12:49 – Jesus did not speak for Himself but for God.

Jesus was an inspired prophet!!!

Inspiration of the N. Testament

- The critic says…so
what?

- It is called the “New and

Living Testament of
Jesus Christ”

- Yet Christ never penned

a word in our Bibles
there has to be a link between
Christ and the NT writers

if we cannot understand this process, then

we how do we know they are inspired?

this is one of the most foundational studies to our faith

the link is the Holy Spirit

Book of John…
John 13:20 is what all these verses hinge on…

“Truly, truly I say to you, he who receives

whomever I send receives Me; and he who
receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”
Book of John…
1. Jn. 14: 16 – 21; Jesus will send the Holy Spirit
2. Jn. 14:26; the role of the Holy Spirit
3. Jn. 15:26; the Holy Spirit testifies Christ
4. Jn. 16:7; Christ had to send the Helper
5. Jn. 16:13; speaks the words of God, cf. 12:49
6. Acts 1:4, 5 & 2:1-4 shows this promise
fulfilled
1. Did not speak on their own initiative (Jn. 12:49 &
16:13)

2. Were both sent from the Father (Jn. 3:34 & 15:26)

3. Both revealed the Father (Jn. 1:18 & 1 Cor. 2:10)

Holy Spirit and Jesus

But this refers to the apostles right?

Did only apostles write the NT?

The apostles wrote 21 of the 27 books

Jude, James, Mark, & Luke were not

apostles

So their writings were not inspired

men?
