 Accurately following all relevant safety procedures

 Comply with OHS regulations and federal, state or territory legislation requirements for workplace
operations, including duty of care

 Demonstrate an understanding of the role of OHS committees and representatives, the meaning
of common safety signs and symbols, and procedures for reporting hazards, incidents and injuries
 Communicate and work safely with others
 Follow general procedures for responding to incidents and emergencies, including evacuation,
first aid, fire safety equipment and PPE
 Explain the consequences of non-compliance with OHS policies and procedures.

Communication Procedures

Reporting Hazards and Incidents


 Different workplaces have different procedures for reporting hazards and
incidents.
 In all cases your workplace supervisor should be your first port of call to
direct you to the correct procedure.
 If there is an immediate potential risk, ensure you alert fellow workmates
and members of the public that could be in danger.
Risk Management Procedures

 When a hazard cannot be eliminated completely, businesses carry out a


procedure called ‘Risk Management’
 As well as safety risks, this wording can also be associated with other risks
such as financial or reputation damages
 To carry out risk management, the hazards are listed and assessed on
 1) How likely they are to occur
 2) How severe the risk is

Emergency Procedures

 It is important that workers are all familiar with emergency procedures so


they can spring into the correct action during an emergency
 At Hobart College there are a number of emergency procedures for
building fire, bushfire and violent intruders on campus to name a few
 The action plan for fire on campus:
 Remove Students
 Alert nearby staff and visitors
 Contain (if applicable) fire and smoke by closing doors (only if safe to do so)
 Evacuate using any approved exits to the Assembly Area

 Safety is everybody's responsibility


 Always aim to eliminate or minimise risk when working
 Ensure you alert your workplace supervisor immediately if you identify a
hazard
 Look after yourselves!
