Statement of the problem

The present study attempted to determine the influence of the


literature classes on the respondents’ cognitive, affective, and
behavioral attitude toward the University’s program for culture and the
arts. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:
 What is the students’ attitude before enrolling in a literature class?
 What is the students’ attitude after completing a literature class?
 What is the quality of the literature classes in terms of the following:
 Quality of Teaching
 Literary Quality
 Literary Form
 Is there a significant difference in the students’ attitude before
enrolling in and after completing a literature class?
Scope and Delimitations

The study did not include the following:


• Carter and Long’s third model : Language Model
• Other functions of literature such as: mastering of English language,
emotional relief, social control, and historical document/social
document.
• Effectiveness of using literature in teaching grammar
• Students who are not studying in Liceo de Cagayan University
• Students who have not taken literature classes in Liceo de Cagayan
University (college)

Findings

 Students were already engaged in programs for culture and the


arts, but not as participative.
 After completing their literature classes the students have become
more engaged but still not as participative.
 In terms of planning and preparation, the teachers still need to work
on it more so as to meet each students needs.
 The literary pieces used in class needs to be more relevant to the
students.
 Fiction is less discussed compared to poetry.
 Only the literary form and quality of teaching made a significant
influence on the student’s attitude towards the University’s program
for culture and the arts.
