Annapurna Scheme

Objective
● Aims at providing food security to meet the requirement of those Senior
Citizen who though eligible have remained uncovered under National Old
Age Pension Scheme (NOAPS)
● NOAPS provides financial assistance to elderly, widows and person with
disability in the form of social pension
● 20% of beneficiaries of NOAPS would be eligible for Annapurna Scheme
● 10 kg of foodgrains are provided free of cost every month
Eligibility Criteria
● The age of applicant should be 65 years or above
● The applicant must be “destitute” in the sense of having little or no regular
means of subsistence from his/her own source of income or through
financial support from family members or other source
● Applicant should not receive pension under NOAPS or State Pension
Scheme
How food grains reach beneficiaries?
● State Food and Civil Supplies Dept. will purchase foodgrains from Food
Corporation of India (FCI) and ensures that FCI supplies foodgrains to
District
● Collector would be responsible for ensuring the availability of foodgrains
at District level and for distributing the same through network of Fair
Price Shop under TPDS
Procedure of Selecting Candidates?

Monitoring and Evaluation
● Districts send monthly progress report to the State Government
● State Govt. consolidate and send this report to Ministry every Quarter
● State Government also forms a committee to monitor and evaluate the
implementation of the scheme in respective States
