BANK

In our college there are many students but in our campus there is no
adequate buildings for Bank. Thus our objective is to design a bank
for MSEC students bank includes all facilities such as Manager
Room, locker Room, counter, Document Room etc.,

Our Bank is an Economical Building . This Building will be very use

full for Engineering, Arts, Polytechnic college.

The proposed design of bank in MSEC , Kilakarai , Ramanathapuram.

The Proposed design of bank by using Auto CADD 2016 (plan and
reinforced concrete) and (design aids of reinforced concrete). The
design of these structural components are arrived at the end of the
project.
Site location - The proposed site is located on northern part of the
campus having a total area of around 1000sqft.

Planning - The plan of this structures satisfies the space needed for
Bank in the college campus.

Designing - The structure is designed in such a way that it can carry

the loads and satisfies all the structural design criteria as per the limit
state of collapse and serviceability and the design procedure is
adopted as prescribed in Indian Standard Method of Design procedure
and the loads are calculated based on The National Building Codes
and Bye Laws.

d = 6,906/20.8
= 293mm
D = 320mm,
bw =230mm
Effective span:
center of support = 7.326m
clear span +effective depth = 6.325m
Hence, L = 6.325m.
Load:
Self weight of slab = 4.6875KN/m
Floor finish = 0.75 KN/m
self weight of rib = 4.50KN/m
Live load = 3 KN/m
Total load = 15.4875 KN/m
Factored load = 23.23KN/m
Effective width of flange:
a) bf = [(Lo/b) +bw(6Df)]

Provide 4 nos of 12 mm dia bar at tension side
Ast min = 0.85 bw d/fy

provide 2 bars of 8 mm dia bars
Side face reinforcement:
According to clause 26.5.1.7 in IS 456 code
⸫Area of reinforcement

Provide 10mm dia bars at 73.6mm at centre
Shear reinforcement :
τve = (Ve/(bw*d))
= (174.3*10^2)/(230*293)
= 2.02
from table 19 (IS456)
τc = 0.81N/mm^2 < τve
Hence shear reinforcement are required
Using 10mm dia two legged stirupps side cover of 25mm top
& bottom cover of 50mm
We have,
b1= 180mm
d1= 243mm
Asv = (2*78.5) = 157mm
Sv = ((Asv*0.87fy)/((τve-τc)n))
= (157*0.87*415)/((2.58-0.81)300)
= 106.75mm
Check for defletion control:
Pt = (100*1362)/(300*293)
= 1.049%
pc = (100*628)/(300*293)
= 0.71
bw/bf = 230/605

Kt = 1.2
Kc = 1.1
Kf = 0.8
(L/d)max = [(L/d)basic*Kt*Kc*Kf]

REINFORCEMENT DETAIL:
GIVEN DATA :
Pu = 130 KN
Column size = 230* 230 mm
SBC of soil = 150 KN/m2
Fck = 20 N /mm2
Fy = 415 N / mm 2
DESIGN CONSTANT :
Ru – Q = 2.76
SIZE OF FOOTING :
W = 130 KN
Assume w‘ = 10 %
Wu = 143 KN
Area footing
A = b 143/12
= 1.31
Provided footing size = 1.2m * 1.2m
Actual upward pressure intensity = 143

Design of footing maximum bending moment occurs

at the face of the column and its magnitude is given by
M = po*(B/8)*(B-b)2
= 100*(30/8)*(1.2-0.23) 2
= 20.80
Mu = 1.5M
= 1.5 * 20.80
= 31.20 KNM
The section of footing at the column face will be trapezoidal ,let the
effective depth at the column face b ‘d’ and the edge = 0.20
B1 = b = 230
d = √(Mu/ Q* b1)
= √(31.20*106)/( 2.76*230)
d = 221.09
d= 225 mm
Let us fix D = 360 using effective cover 60 available d = 360-60 = 300
for the lower layer = 300 -10 = 290mm
for the upper layer at the end
D = 180 mm sol that available = 180 -60 = 120 for lower layer
Provision of greater effective depth will give the rise of under
reinforced section and design by the codal provision
CHECK FOR SHEAR :
For beam shear
The section is to be checked for beam shear at a distance d = 290mm
from column face
When shear face is given by
V = p0B(0.5(B-b)-d)
= 143*1.2(0.5(12-0.23)-0.29)
= 27.88
Vu = 1.5 * V
= 1.5 * 27.88
= 41.82
Top width section = 230+((1000-230)/365) *290
= 850 mm
Factor xu max /d = 0.479 for balanced section . however ,for an under
reinforce section adopt
Xu/d = 0.4 suchthat Xu = 0.4d’
= 0.40*225
= 90 mm
Width bn at Na = 450 + ((1000-450)/155) *110
bn = 840 mm
Tu = Vu/bnd’
= 41.82*103/(840*225)
= 0.22 m/mm2
AST CALCULATION:
Mu = 0.87 fy Ast d[1-(fyAst / fck b d)]
31.20*10 6 = 0.87*415*Ast * 230 [1-3.11*10-4]
Ast = 434.4 mm2
No of bars = (434.4/(π/4*102))
= 6 nos of bars
Spacing = 1000 ast /Ast
= (1000*0.786*102)/434.4
= 180 mm c/c
Pt = (100 Ast/bd )
=((100*434.4)/230*230)
Pt = 0.82
Refer the table no 23 in IS 456
τc = 0.39
τv < τc hence safe
CHECK FOR DEVELOPMENT LENGTH:
Ld = 47*10 = 470 mm
Providing 60 mm side cover
Length available = 0.5(B-b)
= 0.5(1000-230)
= 385 mm
CHECK FOR TAS AT COLUMN BAY:
A2 = 230*230 = 52900 mm 2
At rate of spread 2:1
A1 = [230+2(2*360)]2
= 2.78*106
√( A1/ A2)
= √(2.78*106/52900)
= 7.26
7.26 > 2
Adopt the maximum value of √(A1/A2) = 2
Permissible stress = 0.45 fck √(A1/A2)
= 0.45*20*2
= 18 N/mm2
REINFORCEMENT DETAIL:
CONCLUSION:
Our project “DESIGN OF BANK BUILDING IN MSEC” was
successfully finished. In this project due considerations was given for
planning of ground floors.

The design was carried out in accordance with IS 456-2000 using M20
Grade concrete and HYSD bars of Grade Fe 415.

The structural elements such as column, beams, footings and slab were
designed as per IS 456-2000 in Limit State Method using M20 Grade
concrete and HYSD bars of Grade Fe 415

By performing this project we learned about the steps involved in planning

and designing of the project. We learned about designing both manually and
by limit state method and by using software CADD.

By finishing this project we got a confidence about the designing of

project.
