ANALYSIS FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES GUIDE: R SHIVAKUMAR BY:AYAN, MD SAFWAN, MD ABDO, HEMANG Importance of drinking water
Water is one of the most important substances on earth. All living
beings require water for survival. Major human uses are: 1. Hydrating our body 2.Personal hygiene 3.cooking purposes 4.Recreaation,etc Water is also essentially required for the healthy growth of farm crops and farm stock and is used in the manufacture of many products. It is most important that the water consumed by humans must be clean enough. This means that the water must be free of germs and chemicals and odour. Sources of drinking water
Surface water:- Lakes, ponds, etc.
Rivers
Springs
Rock catchment areas and rock holes
Excavated dams(Man made resource)
Water cycle
Water is circulated from ground as water vapour
to the atmosphere, and the collectively forms clouds and on the process of condensations, gets back on the surface of the earth in form of rain. Purification of water
1. Sediment filtration
2. ion exchange 3. Activated carbon towers 4. UV light method 5. Reverse osmosis Tests conducted on drinking water for the test of its potability Sample Turbidity observed
A 15 NTU
B 26 NTU
C 19NTU
TURBIDITY: It is the cloudiness or haziness of a fluid
caused by large number of individual particles that are generally invisible to the naked eyes similar to smoke in air p H values of the tested water
Sample pH observed Nature(Acidic/neutral/basic)
A 7.1 Slightly basic B 6.7 Acidic C 7.6 Basic
pH of water : pH is the measure of hoe acidic or
basic water is. Conclusion
Turbidity of water plays an important role in the purity of water, and
for the consideration of its potability. Hence least turbid waters are fit for drinking.
pH value of water is yet another important factor for its potability,
neither its acidity nor its basicity at high values are harmful. Hence they must have a neutral value pH for safe consumption.
