DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB

• Landscapers are responsible for the care and


maintenance of lawns, plants and trees. Their
work might include planting flowers, bushes
and saplings; they also may perform mowing,
weeding, fertilizing, trimming, watering and
building paths or walkways. In winter climates,
landscapers may also shovel snow and plow
grounds.

• A landscaper who is capable of working long


hours and is looking for full-time employment.
This position also requires experience from
their past job or jobs.
SALARY AND BENEFITS

• The BLS indicated that the average salary for


grounds maintenance workers was around
$26,720. The BLS also reported that employment
opportunities for these individuals were
expected to increase 12% from 2012-2022, faster
than average. Exact wages may vary by
industry.
JOB OUTLOOK

• There is a program that prepares students to


plan and produce landscape design for
outdoor spaces such as parks, gardens,
memorials, recreational areas, and community
space. Each program offers instruction in
drafting and design, technology, urban design,
architect and plant science. Students
generally become professional licensure.
TYPICAL WORK HOURS

• The standard work week for landscapers is 40


hours or 5 days a week with 8 hours As with
many careers in construction, there are peak
periods that will require you to work
overtime.
