MISCELLANEOUS

EQUIPMENTS (ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION)

IN ORDER TO COMPLETE A WIRING
PROJECT, MANY OTHER TYPES OF
MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT ARE
NECESSARY.
 CABLE CONNECTORS
 SPLIT-BOLT CONNECTORS
 SOLDERLESS CONNECTORS
 STRAPS OR STAPLES
 BOX HANGERS
 KNOCKOUT SEALS
 GROUNDING SCREWS, CLIPS AND PIGTAILS
 GROUND RODS AND CLAMPS
CABLE CONNECTORS
 Used to fasten cables to boxes that do not have built-in cable
clamps.
 They are connected by inserting them into a knockout opening and
secured with a nut.

SPLIT-BOLT CONNECTORS
 They are often used when splicing larger size conductors such as
outdoor wires to entrance wires.
SOLDERLESS CONNECTORS
 Sometimes called “wire nuts”, are used to splice smaller conductors
such as those in typical wiring applications.
 It holds the splice in place as well as insulating the splice.

STRAPS OR STAPLES
 Used to fasten conduit and cable to the surfaces over which they
run.

BOX HANGERS
 These are useful in mounting outlet boxes, particularly in new
works/projects.
KNOCKOUT SEALS
 Available to close unused openings where knockouts have been
removed.
 They are used to keep mice, dirt, and trash away from the wires
inside the box.

GROUNDING SCREWS, CLIPS AND

PIGTAILS
 These are used to connect grounding conductors to boxes.
GROUND RODS AND CLAMPS
 They are important in agricultural wiring.
 Ground rods are made of copper or copper covered steel and are
driven deep into the ground to provide for grounding.
 Ground clamps are used to attach a ground wire to the ground
rod.
MISCELLANEOUS
EQUIPMENTS
DEWATERING PUMPS
 Dewatering Pumps are centrifugal pumps installed in a building that
is situated below the groundwater level, to reduce the water level
and then maintain it at this level.
 One example is in underground mining in which water penetrating
into the adits is pumped up to the surface. In open-cast mining, the
groundwater level is reduced through drainage well trenches until
the pit is dry. The groundwater level in construction pits in civil
engineering is reduced in a similar way.
COMPRESSORS
 A compressor is a mechanical
device that increases the pressure
of a gas by reducing its volume.
 An air compressor is an example of
a compressor.
 Compressors are similar to pumps:
both increase the pressure on a
fluid and both can transport the
fluid through a pipe.
BLASTING GUN
 Equipment used in abrasive blasting. Abrasive
blasting is the operation of forcibly propelling a
stream of abrasive material against a surface under
high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a
smooth surface, shape a surface, or remove surface
contaminants.
 There are several variants of the process, using
various media.
 Shot blasting (with metal shot)
 Sand blasting (with sand)
 Glass Bead blasting (with glass beads)
 Media blasting (with ground-up plastic or walnut
shells)
 Soda blasting (with baking soda)
 Ice blasting/ Dry-ice blasting
GUNITING EQUIPMENT
 Guniting is extensively used to rehabilitate concrete bridges, dams,
spillways, buildings, marine structures, etc.
 Gunite is also known as shotcrete or pneumatically applied mortar.
It is a mixture of cement, sand, water shot into the place by
compressed air.
SPRAY GUN
 A device consisting of a container from which paint or other liquid is
sprayed through a nozzle by air pressure from a pump.
AIRLESS SPRAY GUN
 Airless spray refers to a
method of painting that uses
high pressure to spray paint, or
other materials. Airless sprayers
work by forcing paint through
a small tip opening at very
high pressure; airless spray
does not use compressed air.
 This type of equipment is used
by contract painters to paint
heavy duty industrial,
chemical and marine
coatings and linings.
ELCOMETER
 Elcometer’s range of test equipment is ideal for all your industrial
and protective coating inspection needs.
 A coating inspection equipment from surface profile and
cleanliness to relative humidity, dewpoint, coating thickness and
adhesion testing.
DISTOMAT
 The distomat is a very small, compact electronic distance
measurement device, particularly useful in construction and
engineering works.
 The distomat measures distances smaller than 500 meters by simply
pointing the instrument to a reflector and reading the result.
THEODOLITE
 A theodolite is a precision instrument for
measuring angles in the horizontal and
vertical planes. Theodolites are used mainly
for surveying applications, and have been
adapted for specialized purposes such as
meteorology and rocket launch.
 When the telescope is pointed at a target
object, the angle of each of these axes can
be measured with great precision, typically
to milliradian or seconds of arc.
DRILLING RIG FOR SOIL INVESTIGATION
 A machine that creates holes in the earth sub-surface. Drilling rigs
can be massive structures housing equipment used to drill water
wells, oil wells, or natural gas extraction wells, or they can be small
enough to be moved manually by one person and such are called
AUGERS.
