AUDREY HEPBURN

Audrey Hepburn (4 May 1929 – 20 January 1993) was a Belgian-born British actress admired for her
charm and elegance.
Born in Brussels, Belgium, to an English father and a Dutch mother who were divorced in 1935. She
grew up in Arnhem in the Netherlands during the war, with her mother and two maternal half -brothers.
When World War II ended, she and her mother moved to England. There, she studied ballet, and began
working as a model and appearing in bit parts in the theatre and in movies.
Hepburn got her first major break in 1951, when she was chosen by French writer Colette to play the
lead role in the English version of her play Gigi on Broadway.
This led to her being cast in the lead female part in the movie Roman Holiday (1953), opposite Gregory
Peck. The movie made her an instant international star. Her performance won her the Academy Award,
the Golden Globe Award and the BAFTA for best actress. She then appeared in a string of successful
romantic comedies, such as Sabrina (1954), Love in the Afternoon (1957), Breakfast at Tiffany's
(1961), Charade (1963), How to Steal a Million (1967), etc. She also appeared in two musicals; Funny
Face (1957) and My Fair Lady (1964) and tackled more dramatic roles in movies such as War and
Peace (1956), The Nun's Story (1959), The Children's Hour (1961), Two for the Road (1967) and the
thriller Wait Until Dark (1967).
After an eight years absence from the screen to take care of her family, she returned with Robin and
Marian (1976), opposite Sean Connery. She also appeared in Bloodline (1979) and They All Laughed
(1981) but retired for good shortly after.
In later life, she worked as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and hosted a television series The
Gardens of the World with Audrey Hepburn .
She was married twice; first to actor/director Mel Ferrer in 1954, with whom she had a son Sean (b.
1960), and second to Italian psychiatrist Doctor Andrea Dotti in 1969, with whom she had a second son
Luca (b. 1970). Both marriages ended in divorce.
Audrey Hepburn died of appendix cancer at her home in Switzerland in 1993, at the age of 63. Her
elder son, Sean Ferrer, later wrote a book about his mother, called Audrey Hepburn: an elegant spirit .
The asteroid 4238 Audrey is named after her.
CHOICE OF PEOPLE

Audrey Hepburn as a person represents

heritage, class, and elegance. It was
very clever of galaxy to show the
silkiness of their chocolate through this
iconic actress.

If this chocolate is good enough for

Audrey Hepburn to appreciate and enjoy
then this chocolate must be very good
It took over a year of work before the 60 and nice.
seconds of commercial was complete!

Audrey Hepburn's co star/chauffer is a London based model called Nick Hopper.

Galaxy chose this man because he looks slightly Italian and he is a handsomely
perfect match for Audrey.
FACIAL EXPRESSIONS

Galaxy ended up completely recreating

Audrey’s face in computer graphics (CG) –
a feat never before achieved at such close-
up scale. If this doesn’t sound like a big
deal, it is. Replicating a photorealistic
100% CG human that stands up to close
inspection is the mecca of visual effects
(VFX). So this project was an industry first
and took us to the edge of what’s possible.

Audrey's facial expression is a slight smirk which suggests she is in a cheeky mood
and feels she needs to treat herself with a cheeky chunk of chocolate. Also she is
smiling at the man in the car to show she is interested in him.

Although her expressions are subtle you can tell a lot what she is thinking or trying to
covey
BODY LANGUAGE

In this scene the man is doing a

friendly gesture to ask if Audrey would
like to join him in his fancy car for a
ride. Although the gesture is simple, a
lot can be read from it.

This man is encouraging the audience

to buy this chocolate because he
looks like he his talking to you. Also
he simple hand gesture might
The gesture is quite simple and subtle. It psychologically what to encourage you
is quite relaxed and normal to understand.

“Do you want a ride madam?”

MISE-EN-SCENE

The colors are pastel colors which are

light and bland. It also shows relaxation
with the light and not heavy colors. it is
quite romantic.

the whole theme was very Italian as

there were clothes hanging and a market
were the bus crashed in to.

Every one was wearing casual clothes because they went to a café.

The props are umbrellas and fruit which means it was spring/summer time

“Set in the 1950s on Italy's Amalfi Coast”

LIGHTING

The lighting is very special in this scene

as the whole bus is dark and shadowy
apart from where Audrey Hepburn is
sitting where it is all bright like a
spotlight. It draws your eyes to her.
Galaxy used subtle lighting to seem
more natural and refreshing.
The lighting is meant to look like
sunlight but it is probably studio lights as
it was filmed under a green screen. The
‘sun’ is by the sea shining onto the land
SLOGANS/WORDING

“why have cotton when you can have silk”

This means although cotton is soft and nice, silk is the
best and the most luxurious. Silk is really smooth and
silky which galaxy wants to show what their chocolate
tastes like in your mouth.
Silk has a smooth, soft texture that is not slippery,
unlike many synthetic fibers. a fine, strong, soft
lustrous fibre produced by silkworms in making
cocoons and collected to make thread and fabric.
Benefits of Cotton:-
Moisture control. Cotton fabric is breathable and
gives moisture away from the body and is soft and
removes liquid from the skin, like a towel, according
to Cotton Incorporated. Cotton allows you to remain
comfortable as you exercise, keeping moisture from
building up between your skin and clothing.
Benefits of Silk:-
Its luxurious softness and glossy beauty, there are
benefits of silk that other fabrics, whether natural or
man-made, simply cannot match. These advantages
of silk have rightly earned silk its reliability as the
goddess of fabrics.
FONT

The font is very luxurious and fancy. I feel

galaxy tried to make their slogan writing
like Audrey Hepburn's handwriting.
The font is wavy, flowy and smooth to link
to the ’silky’ chocolate.
PROPS/COSTUMES

Audrey Hepburn's fashion was links to the

50-60s fashion. It was tight around the
waist, cone shaped and up to the mid-
calf. It also had polka dots which were
popular at the time.

A prop used was the bus drivers cap. She

pulled it off his head and put it on the
chauffer's head. This could mean that
man is now her driver and captain and in
control of her. She could also ’like a man
in uniform’.
CINEMATOGRAPHY- SHOT T YPE

This shot type is an extreme close up

because you are really close to her and
can see in detail what she is doing. By
showing Audrey Hepburn taking a bite of
Galaxy chocolate it would make the
audience/viewers want to eat some.

This is an establishing shot because it is

designed to show the audience where the
action is taking place. This is also a wide
shot for the same reasons
CINEMATOGRAPHY- SHOT ANGLE

This shot is a high angle

shot as it was taken
from high up to look
down on the town.

This shot is an eye level

shot because if
someone was standing
where the camera is,
they would see this.
INSTITUTION-PRODUCT

Galaxy has shown their product in this

packaging because it is the common
packaging you would see in the shops.
When they see Audrey Hepburn hold
and open it, audiences would want to
do it the same way

By Galaxy positioning the chocolate

in Audrey Hepburn's handbag it
connotes it could be one of her
essentials and if she doesn’t have
some she fees incomplete.
INSTITUTION- OTHER IMAGES

This other image gives the audience

the idea that this Italian town is very
busy and popular yet so relaxing. This
shows through the packed out café and
the traffic in the street.

The car the man was driving was a

Mercedes Benz W186 3ltr 6 cylinder
car. was a four-door luxury tourer
produced by Mercedes-Benz between
1951 and 1957. The company's largest
and most respected automobile, it was
the Maybach of its day, elegant,
powerful, exclusive, and expensive.
Good enough for Audrey.
INSTITUTION- PRODUCT NAME

The name galaxy could suggest the brand

is universal and infinite. It might taste out
of this world.

Our galaxy is milky way and it has a

spinning pattern. the spinning pattern
could mean the chocolate mixing. Also
the word ‘milky’ in the milky way could
convey the
creamy and
smooth
taste of the
chocolate.
INSTITUTION- TARGET AUDIENCE

 Audrey Hepburn was active during the Hollywood golden age,

1917 to the early 1960s, but acted during 1951 and 1993.

INSTITUTION- DIALOGUE

 This advert contains no speaking or dialogue, only classical

music.
 The classical music suggest luxury as galaxy wants to be seen
as luxurious.
