TERM 3 –– The Sacraments


The Church recognises seven sacraments as drawn from the life of Jesus and continuing his
ministry: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist,
Penance, anointing of the sick, marriage, Holy Orders. For each of the seven sacraments,
the Church specifies the rituals, ministers and norms for celebrating each sacrament. All
sacraments, as celebrations of the worshipping community, express and support the
journey of faith.
 The Church recognises and celebrates the sacramental presence of God through ritual, sign,
symbol and word. Sacraments are a way of exploring the unfathomable mystery of God.
Sacraments are visible but limited signs of God’s active presence.
 Christ is a celebration of humanity and divinity Sacraments are centred on the mission of
Jesus. They bring the action of the past into the present experience and reality.
