ABSTRACT

 The aim is to design and develop a “Steering Controlled Headlight


Mechanism” which acts as directional headlights. This is done by connecting
headlights and steering. Present day automobiles don’t have effective lighting
system.

 Due to this many accidents are taking place during night times especially in
ghat sections. The accidents can be avoided by incorporating Steering Control
Headlight Mechanism.
INTRODUCTION
 Car safety is the avoidance of auto mobile accidents. Special safety
features have been built in to cars for the safety.

 One of the choices available is design and fabrication of steering


controlled headlight system.

 This device presents the hardware of movable Headlight System for


motor vehicles. Headlight System is an active safety system, where the
head lamp orientation control system rotates the right and left headlights
independently and keeps the beam as parallel to the curved road as
possible to provide better night time visibility to driver.
OBJECTIVES
The main objective of this system is to apply automotive vehicle :
• To move the headlight along with steering on sharp turning.
• To keep the headlight beam parallel to road turning as possible as can.
• To change the place of area illuminated by headlight and direct illumination
area of headlight in useful direction.
• To improve the visibility area of driver at night so that driver can judge road
turning well.
• To prevent road accidents on sharp turning at night specially in hilly areas.
• To increase safety at night.
PROBLEM DEFINITION
 A four wheeler usually find difficulty to drive especially at sharp turn
.The model helps them to change the focus of headlight as the steering
move on either direction. Adaptive headlights react to the steering
system of the car and automatically adjust to illuminate the road wheel.
Turn the car left, the headlights angles to the left.
 At night time, driving a vehicle in hilly areas can be quite challenging.
No illumination on turns due to fixed headlamps makes it difficult to
accommodate for sharp turns. Lack of visibility at turns in narrow roads
can prove to be fatal.

WORKING
 In this project apart from working mechanically, an electrical system is also
being introduced to turn headlights. The main components used in this
system are servomotor, its switch,encoder and battery. Cables are used to
connect the servomotor with the headlights. Also electrical wires are used to
connect servo motor to the switch which has been placed at the steering
column
 . A gear mechanism is mounted on the steering column to operate the
switch with help of encoder.
 Microcontroller converts the mechanical turns into digal signals.
automatatically headlights rotates.
 When the steering is rotated towards right the gear mechanism
operates the switch then the circuit is closed and the power is
supplied. Due to this the motor operates and simultaneously
headlights operates i.e., they are tilted towards right and vice
versa.

 Provides smooth and safety ride in curved roads
especially in ghat roads.
 It requires simple maintenance cares.
 Easy to operate.
 Manual power required is less.

 No need of heavy lubrication.
APPLICATIONS
 The steering controlled head light mechanism can be applied in
heavy vehicles such as buses, trucks., which ride maximum in the
ghat roads.
 Specially designed for installing in buses riding in ghat roads.
 This mechanism can also installed in all types of commercial
vehicles such as:

 Ambassador,
 Mahindsra,
 Tata, etc.,
CONCLUSION
 The design and fabrication of steerable headlights from conventional static
headlamps has been implemented. The headlights are moving from left to
right or vice versa continuously then corresponding sensor is activated and
rotating as per steering.

 The major advantage of the developed headlight system is its high


adaptability as it can be easily configured to fit within space confines of
different vehicle designs. Later, it provides bending lamp that allows for
significant angular displacement of the light beam of a headlamp assemble
without excessive light beam distortion and also not need to move the
entire headlamp assembly.
