Introduction
• Circuit breakers play an important role in protection system of electrical power transmission
networks.
• A circuit breaker is an automatically operated electrical switch which detects a fault condition
and interrupt immediately to discontinue electrical flow.
• In oil circuit breakers, some insulating oil is used as an arc quenching medium .The contacts are
opened under oil and an arc is struck between them.
• . The heat of the arc evaporates the surrounding oil and dissociates it into a substantial volume
of gaseous hydrogen at high pressure .
• The oil is pushed away from the arc and an expanding hydrogen gas bubble surrounds the arc
region and adjacent portions of the contacts.
Aim and Objectives
• This thesis will show construction and operation of oil circuit breaker, properties
of oil circuit breaker, importance of its maintenance, rating and testing and gas
handling.
• The significance of this thesis is to make a review of maintenance of oil circuit
breaker.
Literature Review
• The maintenance of circuit breaker is necessary because of their importance for routine
switching and for protection of other equipment.
• Electric transmission system breaks up and equipment destruction can occur if a circuit breaker
fails to operate due to lack of preventive maintenance.
• There are several condition to solve the error of a oil circuit breaker .They are solved by
considering the Thermal test and Mechanical tests.
• There are two types of testing of CB in stations Field type and Laboratory type
Methodology
The incoming total power demand of PALEIK substation is BALIN substation. And then,
PALEIK substation give back power to the load sides as outgoing feeders such as PALEIK and
PANDA textile industry.
