CHINA Country Profile • Country: China • Capital: Beijing • Official language: Standard Mandarin • Population: 137.87 crores (2016) • GDP: 11.2 lakh crores USD • Per Capita: 7329.09 USD • Currency: Yuan • Time zone: GMT+8 • Independence: 21 September 1949 • Government: People's Republic of China • Religion: Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Protestantism, and Catholicism CHINA - Geography • Located in Southeast Asia along the coastline of the Pacific Ocean, China is the world's third largest country, after Russia and Canada. With an area of 9.6 million square kilometers and a coastline of 18,000 kilometers, its shape on the map is like a rooster. It reaches Mohe in Heilongjiang Province as its northern end, Zengmu Ansha (or James Shoal) to the south, Pamirs to the west, and expands to the eastern border at the conjunction of the Heilongjiang (Amur) River and the Wusuli (Ussuri) River, spanning about 50 degrees of latitude and 62 degrees of longitude. • People tend to divide China into four regions, that is, the North, South, Northwest and the Qinghai-Tibetan areas. Because of geographical differences, residents of each region have distinctive life styles and customs. • The North and South regions are located in the Eastern monsoon area and are divided by the Qin Mountains-Huai River. Nearly 95 percent of the Chinese population lives here. The other two regions, the Northwest and Qinghai-Tibetan regions that occupy 55 percent of the land, have fewer people, although most of the ethnic groups cluster there. CHINA - Geography CHINA - Economy • The socialist market economy of the of China is the world's second largest economy by nominal GDP and the world's largest economy by purchasing power parity. • Due to historical and political facts of China's developing economy, China's public sector accounts for a bigger share of the national economy than the burgeoning private sector • China also has the world's largest total banking sector assets of $39.9 trillion (252 trillion CNY) with $26.54 trillion in total deposits • China is the world's largest manufacturing economy and exporter of goods. It is also the world's fastest-growing consumer market and second-largest importer of goods. CHINA - Politics • The politics of the China takes place in a framework of a socialist republic run by a single party, the Communist Party of China, headed by General Secretary. • State power within the People's Republic of China (PRC) is exercised through the Communist Party, the Central People's Government (State Council) and their provincial and local representation. • The Communist Party of China uses Internal Reference to manage and monitor internal disagreements among the citizens of People's Republic of China. • Document Number Nine was circulated among the Chinese Communist Party in 2013 by Xi–Li Administration to tighten control of the ideological sphere in China to ensure the supreme leadership of the Communist Party will not be challenged by Western influences. The PRC controls mainland China Hainan island, Hong Kong, Macau and some South China Sea islands. CHINA - Social • The problem of providing an acceptable quality of life for a society this large - and growing ever larger - is a major concern in China. • The concept of being Chinese is not based on race. Rather, it is a cultural concept. To speak and behave like a Chinese--in short, to accept the Chinese system of cultural values--is to be Chinese. • Chinese culture is highly complex but scholars across the world agree that despite the diversity of Chinese communities many shared characteristics persist. These derive largely form the pervasive influence of Confucian philosophy of the Chinese culture and they are at very core of Chinese identity. • The most important values of Chinese culture include the: importance of the family, hierarchical structure of social life, cultivation of morality and self- restraint, and the emphasis on hard work and achievement CHINA – Bilateral trade with India CHINA – State of Trade INDIA – Top exports from CHINA Values in US$ Million
