The mouth also referred to as the oral is formed


by the cheeks, hard and soft palates and tongue. The lips
or labia are fleshly folds surrounding the opening the
mouth. The oral vestibule (entrance to a canal) of the
oral cavity is the space bounded externally by the
cheecks and lip and internally by the gums and the
teeth.
Salivary gland is a gland that releases a secretion
called saliva into the oral cavity. Saliva secreted to keep
the mucous membrane of the mouth and pharynx moist
and to cleanse the mouth and teeth.
Most saliva ssecreted by the major salivary glands.
There are three pairs of major salivary glands : the
parotid, submandibulars and sublingual glands.
The tongue is accesory digestive organ composed
of skeletal muscle covered with mucous membrane.
Together with its associated muscle, its form the floor of
the oral cavity. Each half of the tongue consist of an
identical complement of extrinsic and intrinsic muscle.
The extrinsic muscle of tounge move the tongue
from side to side and in and out to manouver food for
chewing, shape the food into a rounded mass and force
the food to the back of the mouth for swallowing. They
also form the floor of the mouth and hold the tongue in
position. The intrisic muscle originate in and insert into
connective tissue wthin the tongue. They alter the shape
and size of the tongue for speech and swallowing.
Throat consist of 3 :
a. Tonsils
b. Pharynx
c. Epiglottis
