Fast Recovery
Fast rebuilding eliminates risks of system down
 Reduction on rebuilding time of disks (from 9 hours to 1,5 hours for 1TB)
 Instead oft many to one, many to many is used
 The capacity efficiency is 55% to 80% which is higher than that of competitors
 Equivalent performance to the conventional RAID

Fast Recovery speeds up rebuild processes
Rapid disk rebuilds
 Fast Recovery can rebuild a RAID group five
to six times faster than typical rebuild techniques
 When compared to the conventional rebuild
function using spare disks only, Fast Recovery
can complete the process for a 1 TB disk in just
90 minutes instead of nine hours
 Fast Recovery enables enterprises to use low-cost
Nearline-SAS disks for their productive
applications

Energy efficiency with ETERNUS DX S3

 Energy savings with Eco-Mode

 Disks are spun down or powered off when idle
 Automatic restart of disks when data access is requested
 Eco-Mode can be scheduled or software-controlled
 Higher caches, increased SSD support reduce energy
and capacity reducing inefficient data distribution over many disks
 Detailed energy consumption reporting enables optimization activities

FUJITSU PUBLIC 38 Copyright 2016 FUJITSU

Energy efficient operation visualization
 Variations in energy consumption and temperatures are monitored and can be visualized on graphs
 Controlling the disk rotation status with the corresponding CLI command based on the consumption

Support for future data volume expansion
Solutions to issues related to data volume expansion

Batch Job performance  Data Storage Cost control with Automated Tiering management
is degraded  Access performance and cost control can be achieved simultaneously
with multitiering using fast devices (SSD) and low cost/high volume
devices (nearline disks)
 Data is automatically transferred to the optimal device based
Rarely used data volume
on the data access frequency
expansion reduces the
flexibility of capacity  Application do not need to be aware of the data location
management which is managed entirely by the storage tiering feature

Performance issues appear  Guarantee of performance bandwidth with QoS

for some applications  Stable activity of the entire system by guaranteeing performance
in accordance with the priority levels of each task

Resource Optimization features (Automated Tiering Control, QoS Automation)

provide automated solutions1 to the issues mentioned.
1 Resource optimization features can be implemented without change to the business application by using a virtual storage pool (1 tier)

Better Service Levels thanks to AST
Automated Storage Tiering (AST)
 Improves balance between performance,
capacity and costs
 Reduces data management time and
High
costs due to automated operations
 Easy- no need to classify data or define policies

Performance
 Operational data relocation policies
can be flexibly set to meet business requirements
 Relocations are executed without
changes in server settings
 Transparent to applications and servers Low
 252 MB AST chunk sizes provide
leading granularity
FUJITSU PUBLIC 50 Copyright 2016 FUJITSU
AST – Performance data collection and analysis
 Performance data collection can be configured to match the business task operation schedule
 Days of the week and excluded days (holidays, etc.) are configured on a calendar
 Performance data is evaluated according to either access frequency peak or access frequency average

Enhanced Unified Storage
Quota management
 When users share a common storage resource, there is a risk that some of them exhaust the resource to the inconvenience of the others
 The quota management feature provides the administrator with a way to set a capacity limit per user or per group
 Events are issued in the event log if the user crosses the warning threshold (soft limit),
and the user cannot go over the hard capacity limit set for him
 The quota settings can be changed or removed at any time and are displayed in the manager interface
