Suggest some methods of communication which


can be used for each of these communication
system.
1.Downward communication – Senior level staff
communicate with more junior staff
• Oral Media - Supervisors give instructions to their subordinates
through face-to-face and telephonic conversation. Beside this,
managers also exchange relevant information to their subordinates
through meetings, conferences, lectures etc.
• Written Media - Organization of any size and nature sends important
information to its employees in written forms through letters,
employee handbooks, bulletins, posters, annual reports etc.
2. Upward Communication – Messages sent up by junior
level staff to managers, supervisors or directors.

• Periodical meetings – these are regular meetings with the staff and
subordinates conducted to invite suggestions, opinions or other
ideas.
• Complaint and Suggestions Boxes - In some organizations, complaint
and suggestions boxes are placed at some convenient places. The
employees are encouraged to drop their complaints or suggestions, if
any into these boxes.
3.Horizontal Communication – Message exchange among
employees of the same level

Oral Method : Telephonic conversation, face to face discussion,


meetings, interviews, seminars and conferences are widely used
oral means of horizontal communication
4.Diagonal Communication – This communication occurs when
tasks involve more than one department and there is no
obvious line of authority. Diagonal communication often relies
largely on corporation, goodwill and respect between the
people concerned

• Cross-functional communication between employees at different levels


of the organizational hierarchy is described as diagonal communication.

of the communication process.
• Sender:
• First component of the communication process.
• who is the one has the message to send and want to share it for some purpose.
• Encoding:
• Encode the message by converting it into symbols or words.
• Communication Channel:
• The media that connect the sender and the receiver.
• Message is transmited through the media.
• Decoding:
• Receiver receives the message in symbols form.
• Convert the symbols into message for understanding.
• Receiver:
• person who receives the message or for whom the message is meant for.
• tries to understand the message in the best possible manner in
achieving the desired objectives.

• Response:
• Behavior of the receiver
• Receiver may like to ignore or to store or to perform

• Feedback:
• process of ensuring that the receiver has received the message
• understood in the same sense as sender meant it.
