HISTORY OF LINUX

The history of Linux began in 1991 with

the commencement of a personal project
by Finnish student Linus Torvalds to
create a new free operating system kernel.
Since then, the resulting Linux kernel has
been marked by constant growth
throughout its history.

DEFINITION OF FEDORA

● Fedora is an open source operating system

● Fedora is a project that has existed for the last few
years, they made add-on packages for Red Hat,
including newer versions of packages.

appropriate (DRI enabled!) drivers.
– Good laptop support, correctly detects LCD
screens, different devices.
– Auto detects USB printers! Automatically will set
up all sorts of printers and things.
– Automatic soundcard detection even picks up
strange laptop soundcards.

DISADVANTAGES OF FEDORA
● Installs take a long-ish time. ~50 minutes on
Pentium 4
● Installer does not like a disklabel which doesn't
have an Extended partition. It will create one
whether you like it or not
● Emacs was installed though I told it not to..
strange dependency tracking
● System is really geared to newer P3 or higher
machines, performance will be poor on slower
machines / machines with small hard drives,
install uses 2GB+
