Background Information
▪ Age: 35
▪ Gender: Female
▪ Race/Ethnicity: Asian
▪ Children: 5
Problem Statement
▪ The client was being physically, verbally, and emotionally
abused.
– Examples: exhibited extreme jealousy, he became violent if she didn’t
cook, didn’t come home on time, or if she was on the phone for too long.
He held her down and tried to use her finger print to get into her phone.
When she called for help, he put a pillow over her mouth.

▪ She stated that her abuser was manipulative and treated her
like a child.
Services
▪ SFVC assisted her with a domestic violence protective order.
▪ She attends our W.A.V.E. classes.
▪ We provide her with court advocacy.
▪ Rapid Re-housing
Strengths & Limitations
▪ Strengths
– Resilient
– Strong family ties.
– Knows what she wants

▪ Limitations
– Financial limitations due to separating from her husband
– Language barriers
– At risk of unemployment
Goals & Interventions
▪ Goals: complete a DVPO, live independently from her husband,
get divorced from her husband, and keep custody of the
children.
▪ Interventions: Complete W.A.V.E by the end of October,enroll
her in the rapid-rehousing program, complete a child trauma
screening for each child while she is in W.A.V.E. and get her
DVPO granted.
1. What are some biases you had going into
the interview?
▪ An initial bias I had was noticing the amount of children she had
with her abuser.
2. What were some value differences between
you and the client?
▪ There are some general cultural differences.
– Gender roles
3. What events or life experiences have
shaped them into the person they are?
▪ Leaving her home country at a young age
▪ Being abused by someone she trusted
▪ Having to start over
4. What is the staff recommendation about
diagnosis, Interventions or treatment?
▪ Staff suggested she take the W.A.V.E. classes.
▪ Staff suggested she be entered in our rapid-rehousing program
▪ The child advocate completed a child trauma screening and
discovered that the two oldest children have been affected the
most.
5. What does research say on their
diagnosis/problem/treatment?
▪ Domestic violence on women results in physical and
psychological health disparities.
– Post traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD), depression, and/or anxiety.
– Can also negatively affect the reproductive system.

▪ Children can be negatively affected by watching domestic


violence occur between parents.
– Witnessing domestic violence can prevent them from having healthy
relationships with their parents and others.
– Can result in low self-esteem and cause suicidal thoughts.

▪ Treatment
– Long term follow-up for the victims
– Counseling
– Advocacy education
6. What changes do you recommend for the
agency or service?
▪ More services for the children such as individual counseling.
▪ Hiring a LCSW or LPC
