SYNOPSIS

The text tells about the trip of two little children going to
Allahabad toward Agra. The children were Lalu, thirteen years old
boy and Maya, seven years old girl. They were so sad to live their
house and leaving their lovely animals, parents, brothers and sisters,
but they have to. They went to Allahabad by riding their neighbor’s ox
wagon which carried spreading load of hay.
They had to got down from the wagon at the market and had to
go to Agra by walking. The market was so crowded, so that it seems
they would be squashed. But finally, they could got off the crowded
by pulling the holy cow’s tail which passed on the crowded.
Unfortunately, Maya’s bare feet was stepped with the heavy boot of a
man in uniform and bleeding.
Maya cried along time and Lalu tried to calm her by giving her foods
and taking a rest in the steps of a golden Hindu temple.
While they sat there on the temple steps, something suddenly
happened which made the journey more difficult for them than it
need have been. Directly across the street from the place where
they were sitting lay the town prison. A policeman in khaki uniform
and shorts stood outside it shouting a number of inquiries and
notices through a loud-speaker. The policeman announced that
there are two children named Lalu and Maya Kumar Nagh, thirteen
and seven years old. The policeman also mentioned the identifying
characteristic and what they wore. A reward of one hundred rupees
is promised for any information that will lead to the capture of Lalu
and Maya Kumar Nagh.
Lalu and Maya felt afraid because of hearing the

announcement. Then, they run and walked as fast as they

can. They run through the city gates, and away along the

highroad. Only then they realized that they were running in

the wrong direction and were going homeward. Because of

tired out, they sank down in the shadow of a tree. Maya

whined to go home, until Kanga, their lovely dog, shown up

suddenly in front of them. They felt very happy and then they

decided to continue their journey toward Agra.


Their neighbor’s ox wagon now came, creaking along with its large,
spreading load of hay held in place by a bamboo pole. In front of the
cart sat the driver swinging his ox whip. The children climbed up
while Kanga howled and pulled in vain against the rope which held
her fast. The wagon jerked forward. The long journey to Allahabad
had begun.
Ox wagon laden with goods for the market were entering the
highway from all the side roads. Shouting, fighting boys drove
flocks of bleating goats and lowing buffaloes which raised huge
clouds of dust, while the stream of pedestrians, cyclists and
drivers grew constantly thicker. Lalu and Maya had never seen so
many people and cattle before. They had to get off the wagon at
the city gates. Rows of ox wagons with provisions of all sorts
stood there waiting to pay the market dues. Maya and Lalu
thanked the neighbor politely for letting them ride with him, took
up their bundles, and walked away into the crowd. From now on
there would be no more moving forward while resting on a
fragrant pile of hay.
Lalu and Maya trapped in the crowded of the market, and they had to
got off there. Finnaly, they could got off the crowded by pulling the
holy cow’s tail which passed on the crowded. Unfortunately, Maya’s
bare feet was stepped with the heavy boot of a man in uniform and
bleeding. Then Maya cried along time and Lalu tried to calm her by
giving her foods and taking a rest in the steps of a golden Hindu
temple. Until an announcement of capturing them with one hundred
rupees as a reward and made them to run away out of Allahabad.

On their running, they sank down in the shadow of a tree to take a rest.
Suddenly an animal jumped up on Lalu and it was Kanga, their lovely
dog. They felt very happy and then they decided to continue their
journey toward Agra.
They were to drive the entire night in order to reach Allahabad
by morning. (on page 50, at the 1st paragraph)

Maya was still limping a little from the accident, but they walked
on without stopping until the fierce noonday heat made them
halt. (the last paragraph, on last page)

A. Beginning
Maya and Lalu went out into the cattle shed to say goodby to the
buffaloes, who were standing in the half darkness, dragging at
their chains. They were playful as Indian house buffaloes often are
and bent down their foreheads to the children so that they might
be scratched between the horns. Then they bellowed at them in
their deep, warm voices. After saying goodby to Kasha the largest
of the buffaloes, Maya and Lalu then said goodby to their another
lovely animals such as Surmi the old donkey and Kanga the dog.
Afterwards Maya and Luna say goodby to their parents and the
whole family, they also heard their parent’s advice.
Event 1
