LASER RANGE FINDERS
 It is a range finder which uses a
laser beam to determine the
distance to an object.
 The most common form of laser
rangefinder operates on the time
of flight principle by sending a laser
pulse in a narrow beam towards
the object and measuring the time
taken by the pulse to be reflected
off the target and returned to the
sender.
LASER TRACKER
 Laser trackers are instruments
that accurately measure large
objects by determining the
positions of optical targets held
against those objects.
 The accuracy of laser trackers is of
the order of 0.025 mm over a
distance of several meters.
 The targets are known as "retro
reflective" because they reflect the
laser beam back in the same
direction it came from .
TARGET DESIGNATORS
 A laser designator is a laser
light source which is used to
designate a target.
 Laser designators provide
targeting for laser-guide bombs,
missiles, or precision artillery
munitions, such as the Pave way
series of bombs.
 Laser designators may be
mounted on aircraft, ground
vehicles.
LASER COMMUNICATION WITH SUBMARINES
a) Under water communication has
become the need of modern
communication worldwide.
b) Submarine to submarine, ship to
submarine and satellite to submarine
communication has emerged as one of
the most challenging and necessary
technologies in the present network
centric warfare scenario.
c) The underwater laser communication
system is capable of transmitting
different file formats of Video, Audio,
Image and text file and supports data
rates up to 80-100 kbps. In the present
setup
MERITS OF LASER WEAPONS
 Laser weapons offer advantages
in security and defense
applications over kinetic
weapons.
 A laser could disable both
stationary and moving targets on
the ground.
 A laser could burn a hole in the
engine or wheels of a
threatening vehicle with little or
no collateral damage.
