Abstract
Liquid waste of sugar factory is the final result of factory process that toxic to the
environment. The treatment of liquid waste from the sugar factory industries is required,
so the water quality of managing the liquid waste is in accordance with environmental
quality standards. The purpose of this study aims to know the differences of water
quality from the treatment of liquid waste at Rejo Agung Sugar Factory and Pagotan
Sugar Factory with DO, pH, temperature and turbidity. Analysis of this study using
descriptitive statistics Independent Test T and observation method. Water quality test
data from the treatment of Rejo Agung and Pagotan Sugar Factory waste with the
Normality Test x > 0.05, data is normally distributed and the Independent T Test Sig. >
0.05, there is no differences of water quality from the treatment of liquid waste at Rejo
Agung and Pagotan Sugar Factory Sugar, because the factory processing system in both
factories produces 85% water quality class II, III and IV and according to the quality
standard of water processing of sugar factory waste. Thus does not impact and can be
disposed to environment.
Keywords: water quality, liquid waste, sugar factory, Independent T test.
INTRODUCTION

Sugar waste Water

Waste
Factory treatment Quality
• Sugar factory
sugar factory which every milling season always produces waste in the
form of liquid, solid or gas.
• Waste
The liquid waste from the sugar industry causes pollution in the waters
due to contamination, keosdigenisasi by pollutants and sting caused by
biodegradation of waste in the form of hydrogen sulfide gas
• Waste treatment
According to the Madiun City Environmental Agency (2015) data on
liquid waste results in 2011-2015 the average amount of liquid waste
produced from the Rejo Agung Sugar Factory is 2000 tons per year, the
Pagotan Sugar Factory is 2800 per year. Previous research is about
processing liquid waste found in Rejo Agung Sugar Factory using
distillation pond technique produces 85% to increase levels DO
(Dissolved Oxygen) and the results of wastewater treatment with
group II, III and IV water quality and The Rejo Agung Sugar factory
waste treatment system is the coagulant PAC (Poly Aluminum Choide)
method
PROBLEM AND PURPOSE RESEARCH

• Are there differences of water quality (DO, pH,

temperature and turbidity) from the Treatment of Liquid
Waste at Rejo Agung Sugar Factory and Pagotan Sugar
Factory Madiun City?
• To find out the differences of water quality (DO, pH,
temperature and turbidity) from the Treatment of Liquid
Waste at Rejo Agung Sugar Factory and Pagotan Sugar
Factory Madiun City.
RESEARCH METHODS
• This type of research uses a comparative descriptive statistical
observation method that is comparing water quality in the form of
DO, pH, temperature and turbidity in Pagotan Sugar Factory and
Rejo Agung Sugar Factory.
• Population, Samples and Sampling Techniques
Sampling techniques is purposive sampling that is sampling
techniques deliberately with considerations that are considered
appropriate and appropriate to the phenomenon under study.
Sampling point is 3 points, each point is repeated 6 times.
• Data analysis Technique
Technique of analyzing data on turbidity levels of water, dissolved
oxygen levels, pH using a data processing application, SPSS,
Then compared with the value of the quality standard of sugar factory
waste based Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia
Number 82 of 2001.

DISCUSSION
• the results of the processing of liquid waste from the
Great Rejo Sugar Factory and Pagotan Sugar Factory
have normally distributed data so that the
Independent T Test results are no difference in water
quality with DO parameters, pH temperature and
turbidity.
• The Sugar Factory liquid waste treatment system uses
multilevel filters which in the final stage are
phytoremediation systems to accumulate pollutants
and increase dissolved oxygen content.
• Pagotan Sugar Factory uses an Organoclay Flocculant
waste treatment system that can accumulate
chemicals and precipitate dissolved residues and
suspended residues. Coagulation will result in
destabilization of colloid in sugar liquid waste so that it
will form microfloc.
• The results of water quality (DO) from the processing
of liquid waste from Rejo Agung Sugar Factory and
Pagotan Sugar Factory, which is ± 4.3 mg / L, which
states that good quality standards for DO are less than
7 mg / L.
• The results of water quality (pH) from the processing
of Rejo Agung sugar factory and Pagotan Sugar Factory,
which is ± 7.7, which states that the appropriate pH is
in the range 6.0-9.0.
• The results of water quality (temperature) from the
processing of Rejo Agung sugar factory and Pagotan
Sugar Factory namely ± 25˚C, which states that the
quality standard of Sugar Factory waste has a
temperature range of 23-28˚C.
• The results of water quality (turbidity) from the
processing of Rejo Agung sugar factory and Pagotan
Sugar Factory, namely ± 11.5 NTU, standard turbidity
value for good water quality is less than 25 NTU.
CONCLUSION
• the difference is indicated by the value of the Independent T
Test, Sig. > 0.05. there is no difference in water quality
because the liquid waste treatment system at the Rejo Agung
Sugar Factory and Pagotan Sugar Factory produces DO values,
pH, temperature and turbidity in accordance with the quality
standards of Sugar Factory waste based on the Regulation of
the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia No.
5 of 2014. The Rejo Agung Sugar Factory waste treatment
system is a distillation pond and phytoremediation of water
hyacinth whereas in the Pagotan Sugar Factory waste
treatment system, Organoclay Flocculant produces DO
values of ± 4.3 mg / L; pH ± 7.7; temperature ± 25˚C and
turbidity ± 11.5 NTU. So that the sewage treatment system at
the Rejo Agung Sugar Factory and Pagotan Sugar Factory is
effective to produce water quality that is safe for the
community and the environment.
