social development in children?

● Lack of empathy

Positive Effects
Emotional Intelligence: The ability to recognize and
understand emotions in yourself and others, and your
ability to use this awareness to manage your behaviors
and relationships.

● Undermines Self-awareness
● Weakens Self-regulation

Negative Effects
When devices are used inappropriately empathy can be
affected.

● Desensitization to shocking images and videos.
● Transforms the nature of relationships.
● In a survey of 298 users of social media, 50% said that
social media made their lives and self-esteem worse.
Why is it important?

● How students feel in school is an important part of


their education.
● Students should feel emotionally safe and secure.
● They should have a healthy learning environment.
How does it impact our use of technology?

“ Students learn together online, but because a teacher is present, they


don’t call each other bad names or do stupid, crude stuff.” (p. 36)

● Technology is having a major impact on how students interact.


● In the past 20 years “there has been a 40% decline in college students
on measurement of empathy.”
● The lack of face-to-face conversations is a big contributor to bullying.
● Too much time behind a device is affecting how students interact.
