 What is the MIGC?
The MIGC is a non-profit,
volunteer organization for
geoscience professionals,
intended to provide a forum for
identifying solutions to the
major data and software-
related problems and issues
facing the mining industry.

 The Problem
 Companies hire geoscientists to find
orebodies, NOT
• To clean up data
• Search for missing data
• Wrestle with incompatible data formats
• Try and figure out where the data came from
and how good it is
• Etc., etc.
 Support staff are limited or non-existent

What We Would Like to See

 We need:
• A complete, easy to search catalogue
• Clean, reliable data
• Available in most common formats
• Standard format metadata
• Easy access – downloadable as well as
CD/DVD

 Tenement Change Detection
 Western Australia tenement data
• DOIR provides a fully-attributed SDE
export file to an FTP site that Placer
Dome imports to their SDE change
detection database
• Worked with DOIR to ensure we could
directly read and use their data
• DOIR notifies us of any planned changes
