Endangered means that the

population of an organism is
very small and is threatened to
become extinct.
Examples of the endangered species

 One-horned rhinoceroses.  Sandalwood.
 Babirusas.  Black orchids.
 Tapirs.  Rafflesia Arnoldi.
 Komodos.  Picther.

Some factors that cause the endangered

• Deforestation.
• Application of pesticides.
• Illegal hunting.
• Deforestation damage the small plant.
• It can destroy the soil structure.
• No plant roots to retain and absorb rainwater.
• There will be no place for animals to live.
• No food for the animals.
 Application of pesticides

 Uncontrolled use of the pesticides can kill the other

organisms in a habitat.
 When one organisms die, the other organism will
get trouble in obtaining food.
 Then the ecosystem will be disturbed.
 Illegal Hunting
• The hunting of wild animals is an activity
which can destroy the natural balance.
• It can cause the extinction.
 How to conserve the nature?

• Maintaining forest through conservation.

• Defining protected natural areas.
• Rehabilitating endangered animals.
• Conservation of endangered animals and plants.
 Defining protected natural area

• The government under The Ministry of Forestry has a legal body which
specifically handles protected natural areas which called The Forest
protection and nature conservation.
• In Indonesia, there are approximately 350 protected natural areas over
various provinces.
• It is categorized based of their sizes, uniqueness of their ecosystem and
function.
The examples of protected natural areas in Indonesia

• Botanical gardens.
• Nature reserves.
• National parks.
Rehabilitating endangered animals

• It is already done to the orangutans.

• It’s purpose of the rehabilitation is to

adapt orangutans in the forest life.

• The center of orangutans rehabilitation

is in Samboja and Tanjung Putting,
Kalimantan.
Conservation of endangered animals and plants

• Endangered animals can be conserved in zoos or in defined

conservation areas.

• If their population has increased, some will be sent back to their

original habitats.

• Endangered plant may be also conserved in botanical gardens or

other conservation areas.

• The reproduction which is done outside the original habitats is called

ex-situ reproduction.
