REPORT TEXT
 Definition Of Radio

Radio is a technology used for sending signals by modulation and

electromagnetic radiation (electromagnetic waves). These waves pass
and propagate through the air and can also propagate through empty
space, because these waves do not need a transport medium (such as
air molecules).
 Inventor Radio First
Guglielmo Marconi in 1874 in Bologna, Italy. This radio inventor can get
private education from a teacher. In 1894 when he was twenty years old, Marconi
read the experiments conducted by Heinrich Hertz several years earlier.
 A Brief History Of Radio
Based on his theory that magnetic motion can travel through
space at speeds almost the same as the speed of light (186,000
miles / second). Maxwell's theory was proved by Heinrich Hertz in
1884. But it was only used for practical purposes by Guglemo
Marconi, where Marconi had been able to send wireless signals
across the Atlantic Ocean.
The development of radio as a mass media then developed in
several countries. Beginning in the United States (US) with the
development of Marconi's discovery by Dr. Lee De Forest in 1906,
because of that he was nicknamed "The Father of radio". Since
then radio in the US has begun to experience rapid development.
In March 1923 556 radio stations were established. It was only in
1926 that NBC (National Broadcasting Radio) was established as a
broad and large radio broadcasting body, then its competitors
appeared, namely CBS (Columbia Broadcast System).
Since then radio has continued to develop in several countries
such as Britain, France, the Soviet Union, Japan and the PRC.
 The Radio Is Divided Into 2 Namely
In the initial development of radio there were two types, namely AM Radio and
FM Radio :
1. AM Radio

2.FM radio
 Radio Parts Namely

1. On-Off switch, volume control button

2. Sound wave regulator button

3. FM or AM wave regulator

4. FM antenna

5. Plugs for earphones

 Radio Function
Like other mass media, radio also basically has a function. As expressed by
Effendy (1993: 137-138), broadcast radio has 4 functions as follows:
1. Lighting function
2. Education function
3. Entertainment function
4. Means of propaganda

 Although radio broadcasts are auditive, which can only be heard, it does not
mean that broadcast radio cannot function as a lighting medium. Radio is
considered as a medium that is able to broadcast very satisfying information
even though it is only equipped with audio elements. Radio broadcasts can be
carried out in the form of news broadcasts, interviews, air editorials, direct
reports, talk shows and others.
 As an educational medium, broadcast radio is a powerful tool for broadcasting
public education events widely and simultaneously. Some broadcast time
allocations are also filled by entertainment programs that can be in the form of
music or radio drama. Radio broadcast is also a means of propaganda, can be
seen by the many advertisers who choose broadcast radio as a means of
installing advertisements.
 Deficiency Of Radio
1. Time is limited.
2. Listeners often lack full listening because they are interspersed
with doing other work.
3. Noise Factors (specifically MW and SW waves)
4. It's difficult to convey complex messages
5. Radio is a media that is time organized, so that the arrangement of the
program considers the following matters:
6. For the delivery of messages that are informative, the maximum duration is
15 minutes.
7. For entertainment events it can be up to 30 minutes 45 minutes.
 Excess Of Radio

1. The cost is relatively low (in terms of hardware and in broadcast production)
2. Can be accepted by anyone.
3. Can reach a fairly wide area.
4. Auditive
5. Radio makes it easy for sufferers who cannot see but can listen to the radio
