MODIFICATION OF BITUMEN BEFORE EMULSIFICATION

Addition of ZycoTherm EZ (ZT-EZ) to bitumen before

emulsification improves antistrip performance of cold mixes
and bond strength of bond coats to a great extent.

Mixing Steps:
1. Add ZT-EZ in hot bitumen at 155-160 °C @ 0.05% -
0.1% by weight of bitumen binder.
2. Emulsify this bitumen to produce all types of bitumen
emulsion.

Colorado Tack Coat Experience

CRS1H (60%) was used as a tack coat in control section.

The emulsion diluted with water and added with Nanotac (Residual bitumen 20%)

To get 30 samples 33 core cutting sampling were done in the section where tack coat
applied with Nanotac where as 47 sampling were done in control section.

This shows Nanotac improves bonding performance of tack coat substantially
