Innovative fuel injector utilizing CASI technology

for meso-scale rocket

Conventional fuel injectors supply pressurized fuel via orifices so that the resulting streams intersect with each other and break up into
small droplets. However, this type of injector will reduce the resident time of fuel in the combustion chamber. As a result, unburned fuels
are thrown out from the engine. An innovative injector was developed and it is named Compact Advanced Swirl Injector (CASI). As its
name implies, the CASI supply fuel in a swirling spray form. The swirl generator is the central key feature of the CASI technology, which
enables robust mixing of fuel/oxidizer, flame stabilization and flame propagation that produces near complete combustion over a wide
range of compact combustor lengths and diameters. Swirl enhanced combustion produces significantly greater performance, on less
fuel, than conventional engines of similar size. There is great potential for transferring this "State Of The Art" technology from rocket
propulsion engines to automotive engines.

"Besides focusing on strategic fields such as biotechnology and information and communications
technology, aerospace exploration is also being looked at and developed," Deputy Prime Minister Datuk
Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, “Moving Towards Space Edge”. New Straits Times
