■ Students who have never taken LAX2049.


Descriptions

■ This is a six-week language activity which needs to


be done outside of the lecture hours.
■ Students are required to submit:
a) 5 group discussion videos
b) 1 group reflection video
c) 1 poetry recital video
d) 1 soft copy of the poem
Course Synopsis
■ In this activity, students analyse poems that discuss
world issues and write their own poem.
■ In groups of 4-6, students:
– identify and analyse three poems that address
world issues (e.g. hunger, poverty, war, human
trafficking, greed etc.),
– write an original poem that addresses one global
issue,
– produce a 2-3 minute poetry recital video, and
– upload the group discussion videos and the poetry
recital video onto a dedicated website.

WEEK TASK

Week 1 & 2 Student Registration (SMP)

Week 3 Record & Submit Group Discussion 1

Week 4 Record & Submit Group Discussion video 2

Week 5 Record & Submit Group Discussion video 3

Week 6 Record & Submit Group Discussion video 4

Week 7 Record & Submit Group Discussion video 5

SEMESTER BREAK

Week 8 Record Group Reflection Video & Poetry Recital Video and submit both
videos together with the soft copy of the poem
Group Discussion Video

■ Each video should be about 10 - 14


minutes.
■ All students must be featured and speak for
about 2 minutes.
■ Please refer to the Weekly Submission
Schedule or Timeline (Instructor Copy) for
submission details.
Group Reflection Video

■ Recorded after the recording of the Poetry Recital


Video.
■ Each video should be about 10 - 14 minutes.
■ All students must be featured and speak for about
2 minutes.
■ Please refer to the Weekly Submission Schedule or
Timeline (Instructor Copy) for submission details.
Poetry Recital Video

■ The video should last between 2 and 3


minutes.
■ The video must be in English.
■ Use your creativity in the production of the
video in terms of the recital and video
presentation.
When recording please:
 state the discussion session, e.g.
“Today, we are recording group discussion video 2”

 introduce yourself at the beginning of each video,


 state the name(s) of any group members who is/are
absent
 speak clearly and loudly
 ensure there is no background noise that may affect the
clarity of your voice
 keep to the time-frame set for each video
When turning in video link(s) via Edmodo:

■ All videos must be uploaded onto YouTube. Ensure the


link is NOT set as ‘private’.
■ Copy the link onto the Submission Form and turn it in via
Edmodo.
■ The group leader or any one of the group members
should take turn to upload the video(s) onto YouTube and
turn in the video link(s) via Edmodo.
■ Only ONE submission is required in each week.

■ Please refer to the Timeline for submission details.


Assessments
■ Attendance (100%)
– 80% and above
– Recorded based on participation in the group discussion/reflection
videos. Students are not required to sign any attendance forms.
– Students must submit their MCs or excuse letters (if any) if they fail
to attend any of the group discussion sessions to avoid being
awarded a zero for attendance.

■ Completion of weekly task(s) (100%)


– Submission of all tasks before the weekly deadline
– Participation in the group discussions.

100% + 100% / 2 = 100% (M or TM)


Reminder:
You CANNOT afford to miss the group
meetings more than ONCE.

Contact your instructor IMMEDIATELY if


you have any problems with regard to
attendance or submission of work.

Always double check to ensure your team


members have submitted the work.
