Statement of the Problem
This research aimed to investigate the public perception on the effectiveness of Graphic Health Warnings.
It seeks to answer the following questions:
1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of
1. Age
2. Sex?

2. What is the level of awareness of the respondents to Graphic Health Warnings if categorized based on
2.1 Risk Perceptions
2.2 Self-Efficacy Beliefs
2.3 Response Efficacy Beliefs

3. Is there any significant relationship between the respondents’ level of awareness to Graphic Health
Warnings and their Demographic Profile?
4. Based on the findings, what is/are the effective graphic health campaign warnings for cigarette users?

Hypothesis
There is no significant relationship between the respondents’ level of awareness to Graphic Health
Warnings and their Demographic Profile.

Theoretical Framework

The researchers came up with the idea of using the concept of Berlo’s SMCR Model of Communication and The

Lasswell Formula combined to perceive the perception of the Criminology Students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng

Marikina on the effectiveness of Graphic Health Warnings.

Source Message Channel Receiver

Figure 1: Berlo’s SMCR Model of Communication

The model of David Berlo represents a communication process that occurs as a SOURCE drafts messages based on

one's communication skills, attitudes, knowledge, and social and cultural system. These MESSAGES are transmitted along

CHANNELS, which can include sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. A RECEIVER interprets messages based on the

individual's communication skills, attitudes, knowledge, and social and cultural system (Suresh, 2003).

Figure 3: Research Paradigm of the Study based on Berlo’s Model of Communication

This figure illustrates the process on how this research works. The SOURCE or the COMMUNICATOR is the

Department of Health which is the main advocate of spreading the MESSAGE of the law and The Researcher for

conducting this study. The CHANNEL used by the researchers is the cigarette pack itself since it include the warning

labels, while the RECEIVER is the public for getting their perception as the EFFECT.

Table 1.1 shows that majority (54%) of the respondents were 35 years old and
below. The age bracket with the greatest frequency of 13 was “26-30” years old, “
composed of about 26% of the group while 9, or 18% were even younger than 25 years
old making an aggregate of 44%.
This implies that two out of every five respondents were young. Only three out
of 10 respondents had ages beyond 40 years old……….
The average age of the respondents was 34, with a standard deviation of 8.53. The
relatively large standard deviation indicates that many respondents spread out to ages
lower than and higher than 34. This implies that the age of the respondents varied from
each bracket, that is the group was non-contemporary in terms of age.

DISCUSSIONS
Conclusions
Based on the findings, the researchers drew the following conclusions:
that on the Instructional Abilities, the training was potent in the application of
new teaching pedagogy learned from the training such as……..(cite the
item)…(discuss and relate on chapter 1 literature and studies) .
The basic concept of learning is the main viewpoint in the Cognitive
Learning Theory. The theory had been used to explain mental processes as they
are influence by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors…
On the Classroom Management aspect, the training was potent in the
motivation of pupils’ interests……(cite the item, discuss and relate
literature/studies….
On the Work Values aspect, the training was potent…………

potent aspect through active participation in different various trainings.
Specifically on the following facets:
1. Continuous enrichment on the competency of instructional abilities,
specifically on the application of new teaching pedagogy learned from the
training.
2. Continuous enrichment of competency on classroom management
specifically on the motivation of the students…….
