HISTORY

• The University of Notre Dame was founded on November 26th of 1842, by a

28-year-old French priest named Reverend Edward Sorin. Edward Sorin
purchased 1,265 acres in Indiana and started the private college (nd.edu).
BRIEF DESCRIPTION

• Notre Dame is a faith-based university that incorporates the Catholic faith

with academic excellence. Notre Dame is a private, coed, Roman Catholic
college located in South Bend, Indiana with an enrollment of approximately
9,000 students (usnews.com). Approximately 53% of the student body is male
and 47% is female.
APPLICATION MATERIALS

• For students to apply to Notre Dame, they must send in their ACT or SAT test scores.
In addition to this, students must send in their high school transcript, provide one letter
of recommendation, and include an essay. Notre Dame likes to see what the
applicant is passionate about. The deadline to apply for restrictive early action
admission is November 1st. January 1st is the deadline for regular decision. The
average GPA of applicants applying to Notre Dame is 4.06 and the average SAT
score of students applying is a 1300. Notre Dame’s acceptance rate is 18.9%. The
application forms can be completed entirely online and do not require a physical
printout of the form.
ACADEMICS

• Academic honor roll at Notre Dame operates on a system where the students that are in the
top 30% of their class (based on GPA) receive Deanʼs List honors (registrar.nd.edu). This is
Notre Dameʼs equivalent of honor roll. If you fail to maintain a GPA of 1.7 during your first
semester at Notre Dame, you will be put on academic probation. If you fail to reach a GPA
of at least 1.85 by your second semester, you will be dismissed from the university
(firstyear.nd.edu). Notre Dame also allows students to pursue double majors as it is permitted
and has almost all degrees up to doctoral for all of their courses. Notre Dame is known as a
school where students take the opportunity to study abroad. The latest data indicates that by
the time they graduate, 73.7% of Notre Dame students will have participated in study
abroad (povost.nd.edu).
BEYOND THE CAMPUS

• Notre Dame is located in South Bend, Indiana. Activities in South Bend include
touring the South Bend Museum of art, golfing at Warren Golf Course, and
grocery shopping at South Bend Farmerʼs Market (TripAdvisor.com).
FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS

• At Notre Dame, financial aid is readily available and common as 79% of students
either receive grants or scholarships to help pay for their education
(collegboard.com). The typical incoming Notre Dame student receives $44,230 in
their first year financial aid plan (collegefactual.com). Scholarships that are
awarded to students attending Notre Dame can be issued through ROTC in addition
to the academic and athletic scholarships. Scholarships are only offered for
academics, financial need, and/or athletics. 100% of students in need of financial
aid received financial aid (collegeboard.com).
CAREER SERVICES

• For career services, Notre Dame has a team of counselors in Undergraduate

Career Services that help support students in their career search. They will
assist students with resumes and cover letters, interview preparation,
internships, jobs, and networking events. Additionally, Notre Dame has a
strong and loyal alumni association that allows for job shadowing and
networking opportunities (careerdevelopment.nd.edu). The overall placement
rate of mechanical engineers who graduate from any college is 98.4%
(usnews.com).
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

• Notre Dame has an array of social activities. In addition to attending football

games on Saturday afternoons in the fall, there are campus ministries,
yearbook club, radio station club, and other academically focused teams
including the rocket team for engineers (collegeboard.com). There are no
fraternities or sororities at Notre Dame, although the residence halls, with their
own intramural teams and clubs, do offer a fraternity or sorority-like
environment.
ON CAMPUS LIVING

• At Notre Dame, there are currently 30 residence halls that provide housing for
undergraduate students. Every resident hall is single sex with 16 male and 14
female residence halls (studentaffairs.nd.edu). On-campus living is
guaranteed for at least three years at Notre Dame. As far as roommates go,
you are randomly paired with another student attending Notre Dame and
that you are not able to request a roommate. Even though you cannot request
a roommate, you can request room changes after waiting for the first three
weeks of the first semester of the school year (residentiallife.nd.edu).
MEAL PLANS

• Meal plans at the University of Notre Dame are included with the cost of
housing. This is a huge advantage that Notre Dame has over other colleges as
other colleges typically charge students thousands of dollars for a meal plan.
The meal plans at Notre Dame include all food cafeterias that are found
throughout Notre Dame’s campus. Some businesses that are included in the
meal plan at Notre Dame are Starbucks, Subway, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut.
Some examples of Notre Dame’s late night menu restaurants include Nick’s
Patio, Au Bon Pain (Hesburgh library), and Legends of Notre Dame.
